I have a 98 tour that sat under a carport w/tarp for 5 years.Yesterday finally cleaned tank out and checked the vent tube,is pluged up,tried compressed air at 115lb but won't blow thru.took some trimmer line and can push it over 12" in then stops.Tried some copper wire but the bend in the tube is to tight so that won't work.I'm wondering if anybody has some kind of a solution to fix this.I'm going to try some smaller wire next.Last night put some penetrant in tube and stood tank on end hoping it will loosen it up.I'm willing to try any and all options suggested.I what to keep this tank as it was custom painted when new.I bought this Girl to ride and trying to get her going.TIA

Try an old speedometer cable in a drill like snaking a drain. Could be a mud daubers nested in there.

I think he's talking about the vent line within the fuel tank.  There is a tiny hole to it in the fuel filler neck.  Using compressed air on the tube at the tanks bottom may have made things worse.  I have no recommendations...

My Interstate tank vent got plugged during stripping and refinishing. I used a thin wire, and opened up the small hole a bit inside the filler opening so I could go from both ways.

Slabghost has the idea, used this to clear a 79 Wings fuel pick up. Speedo cable maybe to large for this application but things like guitar strings may work.
Just need wire with strength and flexibility and a cordless drill

I'm thinking of rust remover. Something like Liquid Wrench. Let that soak, then try the trim line/copper wire/cable, and from both ends.

Could also try a vacuum pump from the hose end.

Maybe vacuum on one end, and pressure on the other?

If you know anyone that works on aircraft or race cars, ask them for some .041 safety wire. Stiff enough to push through just about anything.....

Ok,I looked for the hole in the filler neck and found nothing but some rust still there.Took a metal coathanger bent the tip and used it to scrape away the rust and still can't find the hole {don't even go there on that one} used a dentist mirror to look where the pipe from the back comes into the neck and tried somemore rust removal and still can't find it.The pipe comes into the neck at the 6  o'clock position Right????????.How large is the opening?HELP!!!!!!!

The hole you are looking for is at the 1:30 position, not 6 o'clock.  It is no more than 1/4" below the lip of the cap flange...

I'm curious. If it has that much rust in it, wouldn't you be risking a hydrolock situation using it ?
