dont know if that dirt or the way the picture makes it look but for sure it looks like the tire is coming a part.  or those bumps in the rubber on the side of center or dirt?

Run your hand across it, if it feels bumpy or the discoloration feels softer/harder then the rest of the tire change it.

The tire looks square, as if it was a rear one used on highways  Undecided

Okay..I looked at the tire again very closely and FELT it...

IMO there is definitely something wrong..

When I run my fingers laterally across the tire perpendicular to the direct it would spin, I feel a ridge  almost like shoulders with the center of the tire being almost flat...

The rear tire feels the same way..

Could this be normal?

I am taking it to the dealer Saturday...they said they would look at it...and if there appears to be a problem they would have to contact Honda and Dunlop...

Man, if this is a problem...how long would I not be able to ride my new expensive motorcycle??

If for sure doesn't feel the same way it did when I first got it...

I believe it is just normal wear.

good move. I'm would be VERY surprised if they do not deem them defective. I'm still not a fan of the dunlop but i have not experienced nearly the level of scary instability you are reporting in wet conditions and crappy pavement. good luck and hope they give you a quick turnaround.

i have 3600 miles on my tires and they barely look touched.

My front has 4418 on it and its at the wear bar indicator.  I have a 1200 mile trip coming up and figure I can either run it some more or replace it.  I always ran the stock recommended tire pressure of 36 psi

I'm not a big fan of Dunlop tires and will look at other tire options  when I need a new set.
However, these OEM are not as bad as I first believed. I've got nearly 4500 mi on mine and still a lot of tread front and rear. They run smooth and have worked well in the rain.
I will admit I'm not a sport rider and generally ride pretty calm ( with easy right wrist action) on the roads.
If I get another 3k out of them I'll be happy.
Maybe by Christmas Avon, Metzeler or somebody else will have a matched set in the market place I can put under the tree!!

High speed, curvy roads, air pressures, and high air temperatures all effect the life of the tire.  I guess I'm guilty of all the above   I just ordered The Michelin Pilot Road 4 front tire.

I started looking hard today. I think the only Michelin Pilot Road 4 in 120/70-19 (there is
no 130/60-19 of course) is the "Trail"... load rated at less than 600 lbs...

Is that the one you got?

The OEM Dunflop has a new part number... I wonder, is it just nomenclature, or is the "new one"
different somehow?

Yes, its the pilot Road 4 Trail (120/70R-19).  It was designed for the heavy DUAL Sport bikes like the BMW R1200GS  According to my chart the stock Dunlop is a 61W (567 lbs) and the Pilot Road 4 is a 58W rated at (520 lbs). I'm not looking for mileage, but I expect it to be a great handling tire in all conditions.   If I'm wrong, I'll let you know.  I should get it installed on Tuesday or Wednesday, and leaving on a 1000 mile plus trip north to the curvy Colorado mountains.

It's cupping pretty bad for only 3K miles.  You'll probably notice a bit of "howling" in sweepers... it can get annoying, but isn't anything major.  Mine started that at about 10K miles (just about toast at 15K).

You air pressure may be low.  Keep it somewhere between 38 & 42 psi to slow down the cupping.

Other than that (and a need for cleaning  coolsmiley ), it looks fine.

Well the Harley guys would be very upset if their Dunlops didn't last at least 12,000 miles.  I was riding crotch rockets at the time and was happy to see 1500 miles.  The Harley guys were not interested in handling tires, just ones that wore like Iron.

My front has 15K on it now... maybe 0.2mm before the wear-bars.  I figure less than 1000 miles left.  It's the factory tire.

The rear... well, the factory took a nail at 4K miles while 1K miles away from home so it was replaced (I usually pull and patch small nail holes).  The second one (E3) is at 11K now, and doesn't have much left either.

Keep in mind, I have a Goldwing... I know the rear is a different size, not sure about the front.

As for the boudin... I will gladly have some for ya!   cooldude
