I know that McCruise has a cruise control, but at $1000 it is out of my price range.    Sad

I put on an Audiovox 100 on my old Valk, and it worked ok, but it lagged a lot when going up or down hill.

Putting on an electronic cruise will be nice to have for those long trips.  I know I will have to put on a resister for the brake because we have LEDs, but that's not a problem.

So, has anyone attempted this???

I guess it will be a winter project.  I was just hoping to get info, and help, so that I didn't have to be the first.  It should be fun.  laugh

Well,

I have been really looking into this, and I think I have got it figured out.  Being that the end of riding season is over, and I am putting the bike away in a couple of weeks.  It looks like it will be an early spring project.

I made the holder for the controller switch, that was easy

I figured out that I will need a 5 pin relay for the brake ground wire.  This will give the cruise control computer enough juice to turn the cruise off when I hit the brakes.

The nice thing about the Rostra 250-1223 Universal Cruise control is that you do not have to use the VSS.  You can hook it up to the alternator to get the pulses.  If worst comes to worst then I will hook up their optional speed sensor.  It won't look pretty, but it will work.  I can work on the aesthetics later after it is working.

The only thing I will have to work out is the switches.  I highly doubt they will be the same as my old valk, since this one is a lot snappier.

If anyone wants to build on this, and set one up before me, I would be very grateful.  It would save me a lot of time in the spring.   coolsmiley

I am planning on using Kuryakyn Mechanical Throttle Cruise Assistworks with Open Ended Grips.  I had it on my Shadow ACE Tourer and it was fine on my trips.

Isn't the new Valk speedo electronic? If so, you have a VSS built in, and can tap that cooldude

It does, but I think that is where MC Cruise had problems when they were building one for the new valk.  The new valk is all LED, so the wiring is not a heavy as the old bikes, and they do some weird things with the wiring.  It is not as cut and dry as my old valk.

You probably know that it has been installed on the
F6B so you might want to contact someone on the
F6B forums.
I donot know if the wiring is the same on the Valkyrie.
I know some of it is different, but don,t know what.
I installed the Mc cruise on my F6b and really like it.

Hi shortleg.

I have never been on the F6B site before.  Do you happen to have the url for the install?

Thanks,

Brian

I have started buying stuff to install my cruise control.  I purchased a Rostra 250-1223 universal cruise, 4x signal splitter, and a throttle body off a 2007 Goldwing.

Why, did I buy the throttle body off a 2007 Goldwing?  Because, the 2007 Goldwings have cruise control.  The throttle body looks just like the one on the valk with the exception that it has a secondary part to hook up the cruise wire.  I was hoping to take off the cruise portion of the throttle, and put it on the valk, but the threaded shaft is cut short on the valk, and the spacer they use would require a lot of tinkering with to get it to work.  So, I will just clean up this throttle body, and use it instead.  Hopefully, there isn't any differences internally, but I will find that out when I take mine off the valk.  If it does differ than I will have to rethink this.  I looked at the part numbers, and they do have slightly different numbers, but very close.  I think the different numbers refer to the extra cruise part on the Goldwings.
I still have to fabricate some stuff to fit the Rostra on, and when I get that done I will post some pictures.

Well, I got the Rostra hooked up to the Goldwing throttle body that I bought.  I just had to make an adjuster for the cable.  I did this by welding a nut on a small piece of flat bar and then bolting that to the throttle mechanism.  I then took a 5/16" round head bolt, and drilled a 1/8" hole for the cable, and a 9/32" hole to fit the cable sheath into.  I then cut a slot in the bolt length wise to be able to put the cable in it.  I then got a piece of cable with a 'T' (from a bicycle) to connect the Rostra cable to the cruise mechanism on the throttle body.
The really nice thing with the Goldwing throttle body is that the cruise portion does not move when the throttle is on, only when the cruise is engaged does the cruise mechanism turn.  The cruise mechanism is also built, so that it has a little play before it engages the throttle when the throttle is closed.  So, you don't have to worry about the cruise making the bike idle high.

Parts I made to hook up the Rostra cable.

All hooked up.  I also ground down the stopper for the cruise mechanism, so that the cruise can be set at higher speeds.  I guess it is Honda's way of limiting the speed in which the cruise can be set.  The throttle can only be opened about 1/2 throttle with the cruise.  Now it can be opened about 3/4 throttle.  I did this because Rostra says to make sure that their cruise control cable does not have any restrictions when it pulls the cable.

Now, I have to wait until spring to totally hook the Rostra cruise up.  That is when I will get my bike out of storage.
