The Valkyrie Generic Parts List when combined with eBay is a penny pincher's Godsend.  I'm sold on this bike, but not on prices for OEM parts.  Since I seem to keep needing parts I'm stocking up on some stuff.

Thinking I may be needing new rear bearings right away, I took the generic part numbers to all three local shops.  None had both rear bearings in stock, all could order them for a total of around $70.  I entered the part numbers on eBay, and was able to find both rear bearings and also two front bearings to keep in the saddlebag as spares for my 97.  Got all four bearings on eBay for 16.52 shipped!  Big difference there.

The only crappy part is I have to wait a week for them to get here; in the meantime I'm grounded.   Angry

No offense, but you get what you pay. I'd rather pay a few bucks more and get the OEM ones.

I bought mine at a local bearing house, for maybe $7 for the wide rear one. It was a while ago, so I forget most the details.

Like poppa mentioned, you get what you pay for. I asked for nothing Chinese made.

The vendor deals only in bearings, and the parts ordered said OEM supplier to Honda (among others).  Time will tell.

I had a rear bearing fail around 50,000 miles like many others did.  The dealer sold me the wrong bearing; it was sealed on only one side.  So I went to NAPA, where they had the right one (6204-2RS) in stock for about $17.  That was well over 100,000 miles ago and the bearing is still fine.  I wouldn't be surprised if Honda got a bad batch from a supplier way back then.

My former employer made mining conveyor belts.  They switched the bearings on the rollers from $5 USA to $2 Chinese.  What happened?  Nothing bad.  Everything worked and lasted just as good.  I then had a planner order the bearings  from another supplier and got the exact same Chinese item for under $1.  Worked good, as expected.

I prefer made in USA, but my experience with bearings gives me no concern about the country of origin.
I hear what you are saying, but conveyor belt rollers are not exactly a demanding test for a bearing. Low speed, low temperature, intermittent loading.

Hello all,

I am new to this forum and to the beauty that is a Valkyrie. Like most, I do not like to overpay for anything. I do prefer OEM when possible BUT I also know from personal experience that OEM's do not always use the BEST quality components. Sometimes a part manufactured by a third party, to OEM specs with better quality components, yields a better value for the dollar, IMHO.

Additionally, it has been my experience that when purchasing through the eBay market, one needs to be careful of third party "Knock-offs" which look and are sometimes even named as Name brands are if fact NOT the actual product.

Example:
It has been well documented that on eBay you can, for example, purchase a Samsung SD card which sports the Samsung label and packaging but in fact is NOT from Samsung or even the manufacturer for Samsung selling overstock. They are actual knock-offs duplicated in a small manufacturing country within the Asian continent. They will manufacture any "Prototype" to your exact specifications using the lowest quality parts with only a 25% failure rate for near nothing. This past holiday season brought to light the faux tablets that caught fire while in use!

My rambling point  tickedoff is, verify the source as much as possible and with eBay, you are very limited on truthful sourcing information.
