Hello,

I ordered new pilotscrews. They come as a set : screw + spiral + washer + O-ring.

I will take off the chrome intakes so that a have more space to take away the damaged pilots + re-instal the new set.

Is it a straight-forward job : any advice or things that I should know before messing it up again?

Thanks for your help. Cheesy cooldude

I trust you have the D shaped pilot tool. It should be very easy. Make sure when you put the new ones in, you LIGHTLY seat them before backing them out to your final setting. I put a bit of Never Sieze on the threads so they don't get frozen in after a couple of years.

It's a good idea to place a piece of tape (the blue painters tape works great) over the intake hole on the engine after you remove the chrome intakes.  This will keep anything from falling into the engine (dirt, ...).

I just did a carb rebuild a few weeks back and found a suggestion to dip the O-rings in Sea Foam prior to installing.  It helps to make sure the O-rings seat correctly.

Do not take all of the intake runners off at the same time so that your carbs wiil have some support.

only O-ring grease should be used for installing o-rings, which is basically silicone grease, also known as di-electric grease.

the seafoam god should not be used in this case.

Thanks for the good advises.

The O-ring : I take the neww-one and put it on the old and damaged pilotscrew and turn this all the way in till seated, then take out the old pilot and carefully screw the new pilot (with spiral and washer) till lightly seated.

Is this O.K. - or do I simply put the new O-ring in the hole and push it with something slightly tinner than O-ring outside to the bottom of the hole - then install the new pilot + spring + washer.

How do you folks do this the best??

That bit from Motion Pro looks to be a little short .... did you have to mod it at all to make it work ??

Just put it in a 1/4" socket. Shallow = short handle deep well =long handle.

So can I assume that the bit will be long enough to stick out of the carb ??

You assume right it can be a tight fit but it will fit just have to make sure you are on the D shaped screw it only goes one way of course but finding it sometimes is a pain LOL
