While I have the 1999 IS up on the stand repairing the damage I will service the rear end too.

For the O-Rings, is there any benefit to getting super-dooper poly rings like this: http://redeye.ecrater.com/p/18218041/final-drive-o-rings-for-valkyrie-polyurethane

over the 'normal' rings like this: http://www.carolinabikeandtrike.com/ORings.htm ???

Well I bought the Redeye polyurethane o-rings because their instructions and descriptions scared me enough  (good marketing I guess) that upon installation I might sever a regular O-ring that I went with theirs.  Polyurethane O-rings are so durable you can actually use them over again, which I did once. The cost difference is negligible.

Again, I think redeye stuff is always supposed to be good.

I've been using carolina bike and trike o-rings for 70,000 miles.

I change them every tire (eight or ten tires) and I only remember
one of them ever seeming like it needed changed. Carolina bike
and trike ones come in a pack of (5 sets?) and don't cost much.

I guessed that the o-rings get changed often enough that the poly kind is a bit of overkill. Y'all have more experience at this than I do.

Checking, cleaning, and GREASING every 10 to 12 or maybe 15 thousand miles is the main thing. My opinion, if you want to use better o rings go for it.

I've used the Redeye polyurethane rings on 3 bikes so far.  Haven't torn any of them back down again to check, but I think the reasoning behind them is sound.  Here's a discussion about it from last February:
