On the way to Bikes, Blues, & BBQ this past week, the Pig Trail was closed for repairs midway to Fayetteville. As I was running ahead of schedule, I decided to run it & backtrack to the freeway route.

Upon arriving at the blockade, I was told of a scenic twisty route. Forty miles later hwy. 215 (a great ride new to me) ended at a gravel road. The locals at a nearby country store & honey-tonk better known as the Oark Cafe advised that only four miles of gravel road would return me to civilization. To avoid backtracking sixty miles, I took the bait. The shortcut turned out to be at least twelve miles of the roughest road I've ever been on. It would have been a slight challenge for a dirt bike.

To the point: my previously dry right fork began to leak enough to have splattered the timing cover with fork oil by the time I returned home. (200 miles)  I did the film trick using a new to me device, "Fork Doctor" and the fork now seems to be ok.

I estimate that at least an ounce of oil has leaked before and during the repair.

Should I replace the lost oil based on what is at best a guess of how much leaked out?

If its was me I wouldnt worry about it. I`ve had mine leak before with not adding any after doing the film trick. I think it seems like more comes out than actually does because it goes everywhere.

Same thing happened to me but I was parked in the garage a few days when it happened.
I ran the same tool around the seal and it hasn't leaked since and that was two years ago.
I have yet to replace the oil although I may break down the forks this winter.
