Folks:
Can anyone tell me what the reserve difference is on a 97 Standard tank between the stock OEM petcock and a Pingel ? I remember hearing that a Pingel has significantly less reserve.

Thanks in advance...

I believe I remember reading that it's about 1/2 of the OEM. However, remember that the total fuel volume doesn't change. It just effectively shifts some fuel to the non-reserve pickup portion of the tank.

OEM maybe 30ish, Pingel more like 15ish.  However, you still have the same amount of gas/range...just use the trip meter to next fill up.  I start looking for gas at 100miles, and find it before 150miles and never had a problem.

I can't answer your question either. I've used a Pingel for at least 15 years and have never hit reserve. I set the trip meter at every fuel up and get fuel by 150-160 miles and it always takes app 4 gal.

Wasn't there a post about changing the height of the replacement pick up, so you have more fuel on the reserve side of the switch? You might want to do a search.

Yes, this is what I did to mine, gives me about the same reserve as OEM. Went to a local hobby shop and picked up some fuel line just big enough to slip over the Pingel pickup tube. Laid it next to the OEM petcock, overlapped the extension about a half inch and cut the tube to match the OEM length. Then roughed it up and sweat soldered it like you would a copper plumbing fitting. Been on there for many years with no trouble. Being old school, even though I have a fuel gauge for my I/S tank I still reset the trip meter every time. So far I've never used reserve but its there more for psychological comfort than anything I guess.

John, I did the same thing with my Pingel vacuum model some years ago. Still works fine. The only thing I could complain about I guess, would be that Pingels fuel control lever swings to the rear of the bike for the on position. Not particularly intuitive.
