All you "Dark Siders" out there are going to hate me, but I am defecting! I bought a 99 I/S in May. It had a GY TT on it & after almost 6K miles, I have decided I don't like it. The front is a Dunlop E3 radial with about 6K on it. I don't drag pegs, I ride a lot of 2 up, mostly in the mountains (Colorado) but also some in town and I/S riding. So... What do you folks reccomed as a rear? And where is the best place to buy, either online, or if you are in the Colorado Springs/Denver/Pueblo area, locally. Thanks in advance for the advice, and also the grief!

I've been very satisfied with the E3's...I'm on my second set on my I/S. I get exceptional mileage out of them also...right at 20,000. I had a bad experience in the rain with Avons and I will never put one of those on either of my bikes ever again. I am running Metzlers on my Std Valk. I like those tires also, but don't get near the miles on them as the E3's. I'm sure you will get plenty of varying opinions....these are mine and mine alone. I got my tires from Dennis Kirk. Shipped fast! Price was right.

I like Bridgestones, 12k on rear 20k on front, I buy on the internet, usually HDL. Bridgestones are cheaper than the others, and HDL has sales frequently, also free shipping over $200. I usually keep a couple in the garage. Hoser

I dont like Dunlops and stick to Avon Venom or the new Cobra. Currently I run an Avon Cobra front and Goodyear rear and love it.
I bought my Avon online much cheaper than I could locally.

Well, at least you gave it a good try! FWIW, I hated my front E3 with my GYTT, but as soon as I went back to Metz front all was well again. I don't think the E3 works well with the Darkside. I've always liked the Metzeler's but never could get many miles out of 'em (partly my fault for not checking air pressure) so I'm now on my first Avon Cobra front. I like it, but I'm not sure it's as good as the Metz in the rain. When it comes time to replace it, it'll depend on which has the best price at the time..Avon or Metz. YMMV From what I understand, the E3's are pretty good IF you have one at each end.

I think you should chekc out www.motorcyclesuperstore.com . I just bought a Metz for the front of my Std. for $125, and a Bridgestone for the rear for $160, free shipping. I can't vouch for the bridgestones yet (i only got 5000 out of the first one i had on it... but that was um, "rider inflicted").

I have the bridgestone battlax bt 020 on the rear. Ordered fron JC Motors. $156. shipped to Woodland Park. Also check Motoxoutlet, they seem to have a good price on the E3's. This is what I currently run on my 99 Tourer and they seem to handle great. So far I have around 14k on the front, 2-3k left running 40psi. After 5k on the rear running 42psi, I estimate 11-13k total tire life. I ride 1-up 99% and fairly aggressive.

My dad bought the E3's for his wing and checked online, but the best price was at the Cyclegear store locally even with the tax. cyclegear.com

OK. Thanks for all the advice. I decided to go with the E3. Ordered it from HDL. They beat the best price I found online, including free shipping. Stan

well I am looking also... so far $328.98 for front and rear E3.... from Direct Line... and ME 880 Marathon Touring Rear Tire for $366.98 from motor cycle super store..... does this sound about right? this is all after shipping or free shipping...
I am leaning toward the Metlezs....
