Found I couldn't turn the top collar w/o a tool and then don't want to ding the paint.  So I found this strap wrench at Ace hardware.  Came as a pair with a bigger one.  Around $15.  Works well & no damage to the paint.  Now kept in my toolkit.  Oh, for scale, on the other end that's a bottle opener.  Gotta be able to open my beer while I'm adjusting my shocks...

Thanks for the tip Mark. I just put my new 444's on just before the roundup and one of those will come in handy.

Which P/N and spring rate is everyone going with for the 444s? These will be used on a Tourer with an I/S trunk installed...about 440lbs of rider, co-rider and full luggage load at times. Take around 200 off that if it's just me running errands or cruising around the area.

All the way up, or least amount of preload.  I have a tourer GL1500CT.

My 444's are HD, 12.5's or 1/2 inch shorter than stock.  I'm 190 lbs wet, ride two up 20% of the time.

When two-up, the HD shine.  When one-up, the HDs are stiffer than most would like yet I appreciate the sportier aggressive feel &  stability.

OK, just to confirm here ... the Progressive 444's will fit on my IS with no mods? I believe there was a previous post suggesting this is the case. Progressive doesn't recommend. I threw some 412 -13" on earlier this year and am not happy with them ... too soft on heaviest setting for 2 up riding. Thx.

Works great to adjust the shocks and I use it for an oil filter wrench too.
Mine doesn't have an opener though.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.
