This doesn't seem to fit the fenders on my '98 Tourer. Am I missing something?

If that item is chromed metal and NOT plastic W D 40 or some other stronger solvent. If the item is plastic and it was me I'd be doing a google search. RIDE SAFE.

I had (really) good luck with linseed oil on the residue from the lawyer stickers on the gas tank. Since that thing you have has no paint on it, you might try paint thinner. Just have to hunt for the right solvent, since none of us probably know what that goo is... -Mike

Not plastic. I think it's some kind of 3M double sided that came with the piece?

I use Bumper Sticker Remover and then coat with Turtle Wax. You can purchase it at most auto stores.

That looks pretty thick. Why not heat opposite side with a heat gun and see if it will roll off or scrape off, then go at it with solvents. Sometimes heat makes it stick more sometimes less, worth a shot.

I found a product that is so useful, I stocked up on it. Ace Hardware has it. Goof-Off - Professional Strength. In the metal can, not the spray bottle - that citrus stuff is not nearly as effective. But it's less aggressive, if that's appropriate. Goo Gone - doesn't compare.

3M Adhesive Remover - 3M doesn't make bad products.
This has been a shop staple for me for many years. Even works on your hands.

Had 1 I was going to put on my bike. You need to bend form it GRADUALLY to fit it properly and I'm not sure if you can ever get it to look perfect. I gave up and never actually peeled the cover off the sticker to install. Asked Joe about his which doesn't sit perfect either. He says wherever you FIRST palce it it STAYS so get it right the first time. Mine is one the shelf still unused..........
