Hi guys, I have to take the clutch cover off to repaint, do I have to take the motor out to remove the cover.

no.
u have to remove the kick stand bracket. check out some of the clutch replacement threads for instructions and pics.

of all the Goldwing GL engine based bikes only the 1200 needs to have the engine pulled to do a clutch repair.

not familiar with the GL1800 line of bikes

Like CA said, you can remove it without pulling the engine, remove kickstand bracket, I just let it hang to the side, you also have to remove the slave clutch, if you tie the clutch handle back you don't need to drain the slave clutch....I also make a drawing of the clutch cover on a piece of card board with the bolt holes marked and as I remove the bolts I place them in the holes on the cardboard, they are different sizes, this way they go back the same way they came out....most of the time the gasket isn't damaged when removing, but I'd have one on hand just in case...good luck.. cooldude
