Hi Folks, Bought my 99 Tourer this year with what appears to be 15k on it. Runs great and looks good. For all I know the odometer has been around twice but I bought it from a dealer that signed actual mileage document and told me he knew the bike and swore mileage was accurate. True or not I am hooked on this bike. Every ride ends with a big ol grin. That being said I want to put a car tire on the bike this winter. The Bike came with Dunlop's that I am convinced are the worst tire I have run on a road bike. I managed to break loose three times this year and although I giggled like a kid in a candy shop once straightened out, it is a white knuckle experience I am going to try and avoid on this particular beast. So the Dunlop's must Go! .. I have read a lot of what I could find out there and some really interesting documents by some very smart motorcyclists and I think it is the way I want to go. I was hoping to get tire recommendation from those who have gone that route. Maybe some opinions on what tire to run ? I was thinking a gummy tire like a Blizzak would adhere to the pavement well but might be real noisy. I was also thinking Avon for a front tire but would love to hear what is working great for ya'll since there are millions of miles represented on here. Thanks!

Are you thinking of double darkside, a rear tire on the front along with a CT on the rear?
What kind of riding you doing, single or dual? City/curves or hwy?
I can't tell you, but I went for the Auston Taxi Tire (ATT) for my 88' GW.

been riding a ct for over 5 years now. lots of miles on the hwy. best thing to tell you when it comes to picking a ct is look for one that has a rounded sidewall. or at least not square sidewall. rode a General altimax hp for the past 5 years but to bad no longer making them. going to try the yokohama avid envigor like the tread and it is a rounded sidewall. the rating is good on the tire. A-A for temp and wear. you can go to darksidetire.com and look at the tires people have tried and what air pressure there running. your first ride on a ct will take about 10-20 min and you will feel how it handles. i will never go back to a mc on rear. ct way better.

+1 on the yoko envigor. Been running that tire for 20K and it behaves like a mc tire.

Thanks for the responses and the link. I ride pretty mellow most days but am inclined to push the corners a little. Regular MC tire for the front. I ride the slab to work, poke around town and on weekends try to ride as much as possible through mountains. Saw some good feedback on the Michelin X-Ice and heading over to the darkside link to see what others have been running

I just went darkside about 1,000 miles ago. I went Yoko AViD Envigor and have Avon on the front. I'm happy with the combination.

Been running darkside for some years now. Have used several. Started with GYTT - bad choice, too square on the edges. Have used two models of Yokohama, good behavior. Running a Vredestein Snowtrac on Deerslayer ('98 Std) happy with that but tire discontinued. Just put the X-Ice on Jade ('97 Tourer) only a few miles but so far happy, behavior like the Vredestein and it's a Michelin for quality. On the fronts, been running a Bridgestone Batlax BT-45 rear tire, reverse rotation on the Wing and both Valks. Very happy with it, and get around 20k miles and more.

Love my Hankook Ventus v4 195 55 CT on my 97 Tourer "Green Machine".
Just bought a 99 Tourer "Big Red" with Avon Cobras and will definitely be replacing it with another CT when it's worn.

tire pressure? starting out try 32psi to 36psi. i went further when i changed. i set up a area in my shop and using poster paper and a ink pad i tried a lot of different tire pressures to find the on that would give me 95% tread contact to the ground when driving flat. settled on 35 psi with the wife on the back would get about 96% contact. you will have to play with the pressure to find the spot that works for you and the bike. and yes you can ride the twist roads with a ct. ive done the snake, the dragon. and the most curved road ever Ca 151 north of bakersfield that dang road is nothing but left right lean. have fun and just find the psi that works for you.

Been running double darkside for over last 60k. Bike now has over 100k on it. Liked the Toyo but no longer can get it, ran the hankook but cant get it now, No on the goodyear aquatread to square of shoulder. Now have the Nexen. Like it so far. did go with the 205-55-16. have the Avons rear on the frt. First frt. tire reversed the tread but seem to wear faster after half way point. Now run them reg. tread direction.

So I may have been a little rough on the Dunlap it is cupping bad and that is likely why it broke loose. Shouldn't have cupped but No matter I am looking forward to trying a CT. I was looking at this. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Yokohama&tireModel=ADVAN+Neova+AD08+R&partnum=055VR6AD08R
