Does anyone know of a decent write up and photos of separating the carbs. That would make me feel better to see something like that. Gonna do it anyway, but it would make me feel better.

I would recommend taking a lot of closeup pictures before and during the tear-down.  There are a lot of little washers and springs that must go back in the same place and in the same order when reassembling them. There was a lot of head scratching going on when I did my first set.  A lot of closeup pics would have made things much easier.  If you just do one carb at a time there's not so many parts to worry about even though it may take a little longer. Also, write the carb # on the bottom of each float bowl with a majic marker.  It helps in getting them back in the right order.  They all look pretty much the same, but they each have a specific place to go....Jim Smiley

Taking lots of photos and labeling parts. Never done that before. Usually everything just goes in a big pile and then figure it out. This is too complex.

     Dancnman,
I searched high and low for info/video on how to separate the carbs. I had no luck finding anything. The video GordonV suggests is outstanding on the cleaning  of carbs. I did not video my separation of the carbs. I did take a lot of pics before separating and that was very helpful upon re-assembly.
Separation is tough and frustrating to say the least(at least for me it was). Patience, plenty of penetrant and for me a wood block and rubber mallet. Galvanic action will impress and amaze, it did me! Don't pry apart, wedge it apart. You don't want to break off anything on the carbs. I was fortunate not to have that happen. As said earlier, mark your carbs. Also clear work space with plenty of lighting and strongly suggest one carb at a time once you get'em separated. All great tips I received from Jshram after he did his. BTW, if you read this Jshram. Hope you are doing well with your recovery!
Hoped this helped you dancnman. Oh yea, if, no when you get pissed and frustrated. Walk away and come back later!
       Good luck!

Thanks. I too searched high and low without success.

I have rebuilt a number of them without a problem, but to separate them makes me nervous.

I have made a large dedicated work space, got a big towel to set them on, baggies to label everything with and will do one side at a time (I think).

I just have to approach this like I do everything I want to do and just tell myself "If they can do it, why can't I?) The answer will always come.
