I spent the summer reading what I was told. I'm trying to extend the summer by reading something fun.
Recently I have been hooked by the trade paper backs of "The Walking Dead."
"The Walking Dead" is a comic series built around the main character, Rick, waking up from a coma into a world where Zombies out number non-zombies. Rick, a cop who was shot in the line of duty, sets out to find his wife and son. Then he has to survive.
After re-reading the first volume of the trade paper back I ordered the second volume. Today after work I rode to a book store and sat in the floor reading the next several volumes. The author, Robert Kirkman, says that this is not a zombie/horror book but instead a tale of survival. It is a study of human survival and dealing with unbelievable trauma. Rick changes during the series to do what he feels has to be done to try and protect his wife.

It has been on my extended summer reading list.
