You need to provide more details or pictures.  If you have a helmet lock on a Valkyrie it is not stock.  The only helmet lock I know of that Honda provided is the wire loop on the left side of the photo (not the Master cable lock).

EDIT AFTER READING SUBSEQUENT POSTS:  Did not realize the Interstate had those.  I stand corrected.

He might be talking about an IS which DO have helmet locks 2 to be exact back under the Trunk. Not much help on how to remove them though sorry..

Took mine off.  They are mounted with a tamper proof bolt so that it is extra challenging to remove.  That way a thief cannot just unbolt the lock and have your helmet and the lock easily.

You can get a hold of the head of the bolt with a pair of channel locks and twist it out.

Ferris , I'm guessing you own an I/S. I removed mine by popping out the four black caps under the trunk on the antenna mount bar.Removed the bolts under the cap. When the mount drops down you will can access the factory modified screw heads,(modified to prevent helmet theft) . I then ground the head off pulled away the hemet lock and removed what was left of the screw from the helmet locks. Purchased some longer bolts .Then mounted a small piece of aluminum flat stock 3/16 x 1/2 x 15.5" behind the helmet locks for a licence plate relocation when I use my cargo carrier in the reciever hitch ,also added turn signals to my trunk running light for the same reason. I didn't bother to modify the bolt heads agin. Hope this helps.

If they're typical tamper proof bolts you can get a cheap set of tamper proof sockets at Harbor Frieght which is what I did for a boulevard I had. Then you have them for in the future as well. Dave

Chip,
That was the info. I needed.  I am installing a LED brake light bar on the back and the locks are in my way.

I get you the light bar info.
However on mine there are no bolt heads.  It looks like the "other end" of a bolt.  As if it was screwed in from the lock side and then the lock put over it.  there is no head at all just threads coming out of what looks like a attached threaded boss.

Do people actually steal helmets? Never heard of it around here. Just curious.

Thanks Hobo.  Mine look like that but have a little bit of thread showing.  I thought they were fixed bosses.  I will try the vise grips.

Reply to "Do people really steal helmets?"

I went to an early InZane rally in Zansville, OH    Right after I parked I had heard that a pair of helmets were stolen. They were the high dollar helmets with  premium sound headsets. They were worth about $1600 for the pair. Yep, helmets are stolen.
