I went to start up my Valk  after it had been sitting a couple weeks and I noticed my brake light was very bright- just like when you step on the brake lever. Both the front and rear brake levers work freely and the tires turn freely also. Has anyone had this problem?  I suspect it is probably some relay.I bought my Valk new 2 years ago and it only has 2,900 miles on it. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING! I have been buying Hondas for over 40 years, they are quality machines, never had a problem like this.  Besides, this is a Gold Wing- Honda's top of line. It really ticks me off. If I wanted problems like this, I could have bought a Harley! Just kidding, don't want to offend anyone. Harley has improved greatly- remember the AMF days?  Anyone have any ideas??

Depends on how the light is actuated. I own a car that the brake lights are linked to the pressure within the master cylinder. I've owned cars that the brakes work off a switch that senses the pedal moving off of fully retracted. I've see brake lights function on a calculated drop in resistance from a rheostat switch on the hinge point of the pedal.

So knowing where the light receives the "on" signal will dictate where to start trouble shooting. Though you should be under warranty, so just take it in.

I just purchased my Valk new. The dealership was very clear on when the warranty from Honda started for my bike. 36 months from the date of purchase. (I got an additional 2 years :p)

Take that bike in for a warranty claim!

I will bet the rear (foot) brake light switch needs adjusted (and a little lube).

I'd look there first.

First check the 2 brake light switches one is at the brake pedal and the other at the handle bar brake lever. You should be able to hear an audible click when operating these if not one might be stuck on. I didnt look if you could disconnect easily but try one at a time.

Robert- I did here the  "click" when I engaged the front brake lever. Maybe Jess from VA is right. The rear brake switch may need to be adjusted. At the beginning of this season, I replaced the rear brake pedal with a custom application. Maybe a screwed up the "trigger switch" which activates the rear brake light.  I will have to give it a look.  Thanks you guys.

Hey folks, problem solved. I removed the plastic cover to expose the rear brake light mechanism. Just as thought, it is a piston/spring type device. When you depress the rear brake pedal, a lever lifts up and releases a button which activates the rear brake light. Somehow, the little lever was (off-center) so when you pushed on the brake pedal, the lever did not release the button. I re-centered the small lever on now it works fine. Thanks for the feedback guys!
