Honda has the right part...cheap enough you can probably get it from the stealer (especially when you figure shipping from an online place). As for not riding...you can still ride...but you have to tie up your kickstand and remember to untie when you get off.

Do they just get weak and then fall off?
I noticed it was weak when I stopped for about a 1/2 hr. I looked at the spring and it looked normal and seemed to be on tight.
I rode home (about 15 minutes more) and it was gone.
The holder is still on the switch and the dog is intact on the side stand.
Just looks like the spring is gone.......never saw one fail like that...maybe it stretched out?!?

you still have item 10 on this page? http://www.ronayers.com/oemparts/a/hon/5053ea2bf870021c54be3e88/frameThat is the spring hook. Usually those break from improper jacking or hopping over curbs (not saying you done that) or just because they want to. If you don't have that part, you will need to get it too. There is a good change your kickstand switch is in the up position which allows you to start the bike even when the stand is down. That is why you can tie your stand up and still ride...just understand that it isn't very safe. Joe

Don't see that anywhere......it's not in the view from my dealer.
I thought the other end of the spring hooked onto that oblong looking eyelet bolted through with the switch.

That is where the bolt goes. Here is a picture I found of how it looks when right... You will need to remove the kickstand (not the kickstand bracket), remove the broken piece, so you can re-install the new bolt. Good news here is...you shouldn't have to easy-out the bolts. just grip with pliers and it should come out. This is how the kickstand goes together. Hope this helps. Joe

Another view The spring bolt screws into the bracket and has a nut on the other side...usually breaks off clean (it's hardened) and you can just grab the nut and unscrew it out the other side. (that's why you have to take the kick stand itself off...so you can get to that nut).

Oh yeah...and have fun putting the spring on...it is a BUGGER!!! I tie a string to the stand end of the spring...put the stand up, and pull like hell and try to guide the spring over the hook on the stand. Then I pull the string off. Usually works the second time or so.

Washers...or nickels. Insert in spring till it's long enough.

Wow...thanks so much fellas......yeah that bolt broke off clean. Your pictures show me exactly how it goes together........and I have drum brake tools.........(cause I'm an old man). Time to bolt on the jack adapter!
I think Daniel Meyer is prolly a genius......not many people think like that.

I used the drum brake tool handle and slid the spring end right down over the pin.
Inserting the coins or washers is really easy and the way I do it now like Daniel posted.

When you buy the spring and holder bolt, get two of each. Keep the spares in a saddlebag so you have them if you lose them on the road. Fred.

I haven't bought a spare spring & bolt keep forgetting. I do keep a short bungee in the saddlebag I can hook on the sidestand if needed. Try and get off and on your Valk without using the sidestand before you have no choice. Luggage or a passenger are interesting situations.

Reasonably common...the hook/bolt hangs a little bit low...one good whack and it will eventually break. Spares are a good thing...if for no other reason than the perversity/humor of the universe...(when ya have the part, that's never what breaks) To get ya home though...a bungee cord works fine. Bend the end around the kickstand lever (the part you use your foot on), and hook up near you somewhere so you can operate it...

Used the brake spring tool when mine left, cause it was in the toolbox. Mine let go in a uphill left hand switchback probably 3rd or 4th time riding the fat girl. Something like motor dies, horrendous noise, motor comes back on bike lurches, motor dies.....repeat till caught the bouncing thing with my heel. Held it up with my heel till I got to my stepsons.

Thanks fellas. All fixed.
I must admit though.....that spring holding bolt is kinda wimpy....they should used a heavier one.
