I was on here the other day, and saw something someone said about a rev limiter. Up until that point I was unaware that these bikes had a true rev limiter. I bought my bike used, and I am positive that I can wind the bike up as far as I can. I've hit 7500 accidentally and even 8000 on one occasion. So my question would be, Do Valks have rev limiters(and what are they limited to?), do the afforementioned rpm's hurt the motor, and how would you disable the rev limiter (so i can go backwards, and get it working again). I know these motors are pretty bulletproof, so i don't need to grenade it doing a burnout, wheelie, or missing a shift.

The rev limiter is in the ICM.
If you have a Dyna ICM it has a dial on top that allows you to change the setting of the rev limiter.

Yes i have 2001 and i believe stock rev limiter was 7200, Having said that, Does your bike have a Dyna 3000?. I have My Dyna programed at 9200 rpm. Stock is not adjustable.

I'm going to have to look at it when i get home... now i'm really curious. Where is the ICM located? I'm assuming it's underneath one of the side covers?

Under the left side cover, behind the water bottle. Just peek behind the bottle and if you see knobs it is a Dyna, and if it's just a plain black box it's stock.

Anyone have an opinion on how high you can go and still be safe - sounds like the factory limit is pretty conservative? I have heard of people going to 9,000 without damage.
Since the HP peaks at around 6,000 RPM, does it make much sense to take it much past redline?

I think it starts at 6500 rpms. I think. Not sure why you would want to go much past that. Mines been past a little but its not a everyday occurance. Not sure I'd want to push it tho. Its red for a reason.

Yep when your bike is stock no need to move RPM limit up, I and a couple of friends with blowers find 1&2 gear shifting is so fast that the boost is still coming on and always hitting limiter. So i had to add clearance by resetting valves to prevent valve float. BTW still hit limiter @ 9200 That is just because tire smokes instantly if hammered at roll no front brake or clutching. 5 years Blown and runs better every day Bike is Amazing. Just a toy not a GOD like the Harley bike.
