Been tearing it down to check a clicking noise when at slow speed almost in time with the wheel spin .took the u-joint out ,no play anywhere, but the output shaft splines have a slant(slight).
the wheel bearings are relatively new (double) and spin well. the noise could be brake related but only happens when bike is hot. Could the alternator be loose?
Yes, pictures would be useful. Forthcoming.

Check and make sure the black plastic ring on the diff is setting in the proper location. That would be the one that is inbetween the rim and the diff. That thing can click if it is rubbing on the rim cooldude

I don't suspect the u-joint from what little you've mentioned, noise would be more and get worse.

But how did you check it? You are suppose to place one end in a vise, and force the other end. I'm sure I'm missing a little info on how-to, but you can look for that (or someone will reply) if you need it.

Probably not the u-joint. The click would not be one with every wheel rotation. It would be be more like 3 per rotation. For peace of mind, it never hurts to change the wheel dampers while you have it apart. Take a look at the brake pads to see if there is any unusual wear on them.

It's also very easy to overlook the most obvious things, as we often tend to think the worst.

Check your back tyre for any stone or some other thing stuck in the tread surface. I once picked up a crown cap which made a hell of a 'click' when on the move.......

So tryed to turn the bearings again ,this time they were hard to turn. will not turn with fingers but will with a rubber handle(no rumble). also noticed discoloration on the left side of axle shaft as heat marks so methinks of going back to oem configuration and scrapping the double row bearing.
I have a spare axle. cooldude
Can t post picts as I ve lost my vrcc# and can t seem to retrace tickedoff

With the wheel removed from the bike, the internal spacer easily interferes with manual rotation of the bearings
