The previous owner installed an amp and set of speakers on the Valk. He had a small wheel near the turn signal switch to control the volume. When riding, I would notice the right or left speaker cutting out when adjusting the volume, using the little thumb wheel. Thought it would be a snap to replace the existing volume control by simply soldering a new one in. Bought a new wheel and spliced the wires (very thin wires) but no sound.
Does anyone know if these volume wheels have special characteristics that make them specific to a particular amp unit? I have no idea who the manufacturer of the unit is, and will have to disassemble to find out. Both the existing and replacement wheels are single wires. Surprised it would not work.
Any thoughts?

Can you get a pic of the old and the new "wheels" for us?

Could be an issue of stereo versus mono. Will need to know a little more details in order to help. How many wires in/out of each wheel?

Sorry--no pics, but just one wire on volume wheel. Unfortunately, I cut the wires off the old wheel so close, no way to re-install. Did not anticipate having an issue with this.
The wiring is pretty well tied up and hidden. I foresee exposing everything so I can get a better understanding of the wiring.

You should be able to make that one work.
Just be aware, that you will have three conductors (wires) in and three conductors out. Left, Right, and Ground coming in and then Left, Right, and Ground going out.
I'm a little confused by your comment that there was only one wire on the volume wheel. Not exactly sure how that could work.

Alan--I think you are on to something here. It does seem to reason that there has to be more than one wire. Even with the 1/8" earphone jack, there has to be at least two wires. I think there are three conductors inside a small, very small, wire. Their gauge is so small, they look like hairs. I'll take a closer look tonight.
If I simply unplug what I have now and re place with the one I just bought, I'm sure it will work.

My 98 Tourer has a Clarion CB / Intercom. I hooked up a Mp3 player with a amp in the right saddlebag. Spliced into the Clarion under the gas tank and use the Clarion thumb control volume adjustment. Works great when you slow down for towns and stops. .jpg)

What a dunce I am. Trying to work in the garage, in low light, could not see the thing clearly has three wires. Tried to save the time it will take to remove and re-route the wire connecting the audio device to the amp. The attached photo shows the three separate wires and the three areas on the plug that they connect to. The one I have coming will be a better unit though and is specifically made for use on motor cycles.
