California Emission Control

Hi
Have just purchased a 1998 valkyrie from California, its in transit to New Zealand.
Q Does it have extra emission control on it ,Q can it be removed and does it go better without it.?

Ken if it is a Calif model yes it will have the emission control stuff on it and yes it can be removed but don't know about the performance difference.

zero difference in performance upon removal unless there were vacuum leaks with the hoses.

There is more than just the emissions canister. I understand that the CA model also has different cams.
So just removing the canister will do nothing to the bike.
Would I remove it, if it is a CA model? No. Just ride it and enjoy it. Mine was a CA model, it had more than enough power. So unless you want to race it, leave it be and enjoy.

I removed the can to install the 'stays on bike' jack adapter. No change in performance.
