Fork tubes - corrosion like chipping repair help

Hello guys. I just took off my fork tubes and once I jacked up the bike and the forks expanded I noticed a lot of damage of about 1.5 inches wide all around the tube where the seal seats. It looks like corrosion but there is no visible rust. Both sides are like this.. is this common on this kind of forks??
I posted some pics here

I remember some people repairing this with jbweld. I have already bought a tube and give it a try.
Oh by the way... the right side was empty and some oil came out of the left side. It didn't seem to leak and the tube was dry

Are those pits that deep you need to fill them?
??? No chance of buffing them out? What a bummer!

I've never heard of JB Weld on fork tubes. It isn't going to leak if there isn't any oil in it.

It appears that someone (smart*ss) tried to remove or seat the seals using a hammer and a screwdriver.
makes sense as there is no sign of rust. ill try to polish it. i am really sick of finding problems on this bike. right side caliper had the seals blown out and appears to be stuck (the other side pads are almost gone and this has some material left)
im trying to polish them but i cant get them to fade away

If you can't get the marks to buff out, you may need to get the tubes rechromed.
Bikers here in Ireland use a shop that does what is called hard chroming, and is very successful. Costs a fraction of the price of new tubes.

found this on the cb750c forum when I was working on those forks. looks to be a better option than jb weld.
