Hello Al
My bike developed a low RPM miss ( chug chug) over the weekend, from 2K rpm's up it runs fine, gas is good, At idle you can smell some raw gas in the exhaust.
   Help, Where do I start?
  Thanks Steve

Run a can of seafoam......full can in full tank.

Also, look at spark plugs.  Just replace them if they are original, if vacuum hoses have never been replaced, they are cracked-replace them too, check intake clamps lowers and uppers for loosness and then air cleaner, how long since new?

Those are the majority of simple things I can think of that I would do before starting anything deeper.

Everything chris suggests. It sounds like your slow jets are clogged. Try the seafoam or techron to see if it helps.
