Hi Guys,
I took off the front engine cover the one behind the water pump and found some black thick deposits laying in the corners. The cover itself was a little tarnished but nothing excessive. Don't have a service history from PO so I was wondering. Can I put a mineral diesel oil (just happen to have a gallon handy) in there and after using a synthetic up to this point and then go back to the synthetic next oil change.

You can certainly go to a mineral based product like Rotella (lots of us run it) for one oil change then switch back to your current product, just not sure if that is going to clean up your innards, if that is what you are trying to accomplish.
Be aware that a synthetic oil with the friction modifiers used in auto type oils can cause clutch lockup problems in wet clutch bikes like ours.

Thanks for that Pancho. I have run Castrol 4t Semi in all my Wings and for the past 2 years I have owned the Valk without any slip. My reason for thinking of using the Diesel oil is as you probably know  the extra detergent in it. I did the gear change on a wing years ago and the engine as I remember was very clean inside. I was then surprised to see the black gunk in the corners of the outer case on my Valk. As I have found differing opinions on "engine cleaners" I thought it best to go with "Oil" itself. Where the Castrol should do its work anyway I was just feeling out other opinions. I will be checking valve clearances next week and I'll get a better idea of what is going on in there. I suppose I could change the mineral for a semi in any event. Might not be necessary at all. I soon see.

You might try some Rislone treatment one oil change and see how black your oil gets. I wouldn't run it more than one change. Make sure it doesn't contain friction modifiers as Pancho mentioned.

I don't fully understand what it is you are trying to do. Just top up the engine oil, or add some kind of "cleaner" to clean out those deposits?

Any oil with the right coding in that circle will work. Diesel oil conforms to that.

Those deposits are there, because that is where the heavier particles are able to sink out of suspension. I don't think there is ANYTHING you can do, short of taking apart the engine and cleaning it, that will remove all of those deposits. Adding some "cleaner" will remove some or most of it. But I don't think it will harm the engine just sitting there. But they will come back.

I've heard the use of Marvel Mystery Oil, kerosene, diesel fuel, oil additives, oil cleaners, etc.. have been used.
