How often can the starter switch be cleaned and spring adjusted and greased before it needs replacing? I have done it only once to date. And just debating whether or not to clean/adjusted/greased spring etc. again or just replace with new. Bike has 80K on it.
Thanks

114 K and cleaned once on my I/S. There are 3 relays ahead of the battery box that if those connections aren't tight and clean WILL cause starting problems. Go head and ask me HOW I know!  Lips Sealed RID SAFE.

I think it is all based on what you call adjusted. The spring shouldn't need adjusting (stretching), only have a free hole to move in.

I feel you should have more issues with the little brass/copper plates, from the electrical arc, causing a bad connection and needing cleaning. But with age, the OEM grease dries out, holding the spring back from it's free moving. Not the springs fault, but the grease.

Better grease that doesn't dry out, should solve that problem, but what to use? It may be as bad as asking what motor oil you should use.

I didn't see what model, std/tourer or IS? The relay from the IS should also protect that switch. BonS makes the add-on wire harness to use the start button as a relay trigger, thereby protecting it long than the OEM design would have.

You can't buy individual parts, but need to replace the whole unite. Unless you can find a misc spring somewhere to replace it.

Thanks, I will be adding BonS wire hareness, I have the Interstate model. Just needed some assurance that the switch will survive somewhat longer. I know, but never say never
