Has the threat of death stopped anyone from committing the crime?
Absolutely, no doubt, many in fact. And in addition it prevents the murderer from ever doing it again. There is no doubt about your second statement . But I'm curious how you are so positive about your first statement ?

I think, if there is overwhelming evidence, it is ok. There are cases where there is NO DOUBT.
This is my position as well. I don't want a dime of my tax dollars spent feeding some of these animals. In my world you get one appeal and that must be satisfied within 5-years. After that.... sayonara sucker.

An interesting twist to consider - Many of those who were previously on death row and have since been exonerated were only exonerated BECAUSE of the extra attention being on death row brings.
In other words, had they been "only" sentenced to life without parole, they would most likely still be rotting away in prison.
Just something else to consider in this complex equation.

On a side note, as in the case I mentioned before, if any LEO, prosecutor, judge etc is found to be suppressing evidence that would exonerate the accused, THEY should be the ones serving the time. You never see that happen, and I don't know why. Lives are essentially stolen, and no one pays for it.
Don't want to threadjack here, so carry on.
The citizens pay for it. EVERY time. If locked away and then exonerated, the citizens pay. Regardless of the reason why. Cops , prosecuters, judges, do something wrong, they do it while representing the citizens so the citizens pay with a portion of their taxes. Only ones that are paying and will be paying a whole lot more in Flint will be the citizens. Everyone is going to sue. They're gonna be paying each other off for generations. Or, everyone will get paid and move away the dirt lots with multiply exponentially.

I think there is a rat in the capital that is hiding and he had guilty knowledge of the whole issue long ago. But, that is a different topic. We do and will pay for ANYONE that is lodged in prison. Death row is just that, but the sentence is not completed for years or not at all, and we do pay sometimes for ever.

It also said our gov knew about it as well?? IF he did he is covering his tracks with sweetness right now. He is supposed to testify pretty quick if he hasn't already? I think crap needs to roll uphill in this case!

From Sanders to Flint. Its the way it goes.
I think what keeps me from committing a major felony comes from being in Max prisons over several decades. Just knowing that 'Bubba' will have his way within 24 hrs is enough to keep me a law abiding boy.

You and most of us. I've wanted to feel the back of throat or two being crushed as my fist enter from the front, but I don't want any part of the criminal judicial system, at all. Unfortunately there are too many that don't have this fear. Prison just isn't shitty enough for some.

I have had the distinct pleasure of hauling several to Jackson Prison. They are usually tough until you get on Cooper St. and see the prison. Then the game changes. I took a baby raper there once and I made sure Bubba knew what ass bag was in for. This fool needed to receive the death penalty. It was an 8 yr old he molested!
