The VRCC Washington State Chapter, the Vermin Club, will be hosting the 2016 annual joint British Colombia/Washington State and Northwest Regional VRCC Valhalla Rally. The date has been changed to the weekend after Fathers Day, June 24-26, no more conflict with dad's special day.

We are gathering in Port Angeles, Washington. Ground zero for the rally is the Red Lion Hotel. We have a block of 50 rooms, to date, 25 are already reserved. I would recommend reserving your room now, you don't want to miss this one!

To reserve your room call the hotel at 360 452 9215, ask for the Valhalla Rally special discount pricing. The Hotel is located at 221 North Lincoln in Port Angeles, WA 98362  http://www.redlion.com/port-angeles

All rooms include Hot Breakfast for up to 2 people per room.

The hotel has the CrabHouse Restaurant overlooking the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and perhaps more important, there is a lounge that can quench any thirst.

Some of the riding available.

Hurricane Ridge.

Hurricane Ridge is one of the peninsula’s classic rides and one of the park’s most popular attractions. While there’s an entrance fee to get to Hurricane Ridge, it’s lower for motorcycles ($5 instead of $15).

Although weekend traffic forms a steady stream as the road climbs about 5,000 feet, even slow vehicles ahead barely dampen bikers’ enthusiasm as each curve brings increasingly expansive vistas of glacier-topped peaks.

Many motorcyclists do little more than pause to take in the view at the top, but consider walking the paved trails near the parking lot that give views all the way to the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

As with any riding in this part of the world, it helps to dress in layers and be prepared for anything: Weather up top might be warmer and drier or cooler and wetter than it is where the road starts in Port Angeles.

Lake Crescent and beyond.

The north side of the peninsula gives travelers a few options. Highway 101 is less scenic for a few miles west of Port Angeles — until it arrives at Lake Crescent, where it skirts the deep blue lake as tree-flocked mountains rise on the other side of the road.

Another option west of Port Angeles is Highway 112, the Juan de Fuca National Scenic Byway. Although the entire stretch from Port Angeles to Cape Flattery is considered scenic byway, much of its eastern half doesn’t offer water views. Highway 112 has hundreds of curves and rural surroundings making it a must ride and Redline approved!

The best sections of 112, both in terms of scenery and road conditions, are west of Sekiu. This is where the road dips down close to the water in sometimes spectacular fashion, and where every curve leads to a new vista of water and rock. Clallam Bay and Sekiu are seaside villages mostly based around fishing, and amenities are limited.

Beyond Neah Bay, at the very end of 112, is Cape Flattery, the most northwesterly point in the continental United States. While seeing it involves a short but sometimes uneven hike, it’s completely doable in riding gear, and the views are worth the grunt.

Highway 113 is a quick connector between 101 and 112, making it easy to access the western end of 112 even if you take 101 past Lake Crescent.

There are some great places to explore and more important some great riding in the area with plenty of tire kicking and story telling mixed in.

Hope to see you there,

Just bought a 1999 Valk Tourer and my son will be moving to Port Angeles right about the time of the Rally. (Date is unsure as he is in the USCG). If I can tow my bike from Modesto, CA when my wife and daughter head up there to see our son and his family, I'd like to join in some of the fun. Can you guys accept a Californian who wishes he wasn't?

The more, the merrier! They even accept me. I've been riding my ACE Tourer, GW GL1500, and even my convertible last year, to the Rallies.

My IS arrives on Saturday, and I'll be a happy Valkyrie owner again. It was all to short, and too long ago, when I had my accident back in 2010 after getting my bike home from Las Vegas.

Thank you for welcoming this reluctant Californian. I'll consider riding up, but I'm not a long-distance rider and think that by the time I got there, I'd not want to sit on mine for a while. So I'm hoping to find a way to tow her.

Yes, it is really happening! Come join us, should be fun! Take a ride on the 112 to the most northwesterly point in the continental United States or ride the 101 along the coast, or maybe up to Hurricane Ridge, one of the peninsula’s classic rides and one of the park’s most popular attractions.

Any ride with the Vermin Club is an adventure not soon forgotten!

Hope to see you there,

It's on. Had reservations since last year, even with the high US $. I know at least 3 of use from the Lower Mainland coming, and usually more show up.

It's been a very nice international time together. Riding, talking, drinking.

Come, par-take, and enjoy the time together. I've been wanting to ride the Olympic peninsula for years, but also want to ride up to Hurricane Ridge. Will wait to see what the weather dictates.

I'm not able to make "InZane this year  Sad and the attendance is good  cooldude for that event. When I saw this it looked like there would be about 4 attending. Not that I wouldn't go anyway but there doesn't seem to be a lot of excitement  Cheesy via this thread ........ that's why I asked.

The talk is greater on the Vermin site, people chiming in whether they are coming or not.

http://vermin-club.org/yabb/YaBB.pl?num=1438374299

I believe the word is 25 reservations at the hotel. We usually don't hear anything from the boys/girls from Spokane.

T-Man, we have held this rally for the past 6 or 7 years...starting in New Denver BC (Kootenays) then to Post Falls ID for a couple of years, last year in Soap Lake WA, then to new location this year in Port Angeles hosted by the Vermin club in WA. Usually about 30 -40 bikes from AB,  BC, WA, OR have attended....a real good group of folks and a great time.
I get home from InZane on the 22nd or 23rd, then head to Port Angeles first thing AM on the 24th. Staying for 2 nights then heading home. Will be a few from BC going (and possibly AB as well)....if you want to go through BC (cross border at Sumas in the Fraser Valley) I would be glad to meet up and ride down with you. Also, I'm leaning on heading through AB on my return trip from WV....if you wish to go maybe we can hook up there? Let me know....Mike

Okay, some good info and "msb" I will take your offers into consideration as I plan. I will most likely have a riding buddy joining me as we were thinking to leave a week ahead of time to site see along the way. Site see where ....... I have no idea yet as to a route but I'll be getting on that soon I hope.

Still hoping to have my '99 Tourer there when I'm there to help my son move-in before he starts his new gig at the USCG Air Station - PA.

As a complete newbie to this group and motorcycle rallies, I'm wondering how this works. I'll be staying at my son's house, so I won't be at the hotel to get all this just by hanging out at the bar.

I see some great rides available. But are they scheduled? That is, how would I know when to be at the hotel to join-in on the 112 ride? The Hurricane Ridge ride? Any ride? I know where to find you all after dark, but it's the rides I'm unsure of.

Any input on this or other subject-not-known-by-a-newbie would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Jeff

The rides are not scheduled, I recommend arriving at the hotel by no later than 08:00 Saturday to join up on the ride of your choice.

See you there,

Or the night before for the meet-and-greet. That's when people will most likely speak up and say when and when they are going to ride.

I'm most likely going to go for the slow ride up to Hurricane ridge if the weather is going to be dry.

Raining, then I'm going to try to run down to Astoria, and maybe loop back via Bremerton.

Thanks! I'll try to make the meet-and-greet AND be at the hotel prior to 9 AM. I'll be there for two weeks, so I'll have more opportunities to ride after the rally, but definitely want to join in one of the group rides!

I got into PA Thursday, following my Coast Guard son in his moving van. Didn't see any Valks on my way in, but saw a couple today. Looking forward to joining you all in the morning and setting off on a great ride.

Just want to say a HUGE thank you to all the Vermin who helped put on such a great weekend. It was nice getting to know you all and now being able to put a face to all the crazy names.  You guys did a bang up job of hosting another super event. Thanks so much.  Smiley

Now on to next year. I believe the BC chapter is going to try and hold the rally in Grand Forks. More info to come as we get it.

Thank you to Redline and the others who put this together!!! And thank you to all of you for accepting this reluctant Californian. I had a great time and enjoyed interacting with many of you. Sorry I couldn't make the pre-ride meet 'n greet or the post-ride beach party. Maybe next year!

It was great seeing and riding with everyone! Loved the 112 road and the views from the most NW point in the lower 48 were spectacular! The ride along Lake Crescent is always a treat, one of my favorite in the area. Thanks go to the home town Vermin members for the beach party and fire right in front of the hotel. Good times!

Looking forward to the Valhalla 2017 Rally.
