Is there a better option for a cruise control than the Audio vox CCS-100? I seem to remember reading about a newer version that did not require a vacuum canister.

I don't have a vacuum canister on my AudioVox. It works great. I think the one you are talking about is called MCruise.

I've install about six of the AudioVox units in the last 10 or 12 years without any problems at all. One of mine did quit on me but it took 7yrs and about 100k miles to kill it.

I installed a Rostra 250 on my Tourer this last winter, and managed to get enough good weather to tune it in this spring. I used their magnetic VSS kit with three magnets on the rear wheel. With this setup, I have switch 7 on, and all other switches are off...

Is the Rostra control unit any smaller than the vacuum modulator unit of the CCS-100? Is it any easier to mount on a Standard than the CCS-100?

I'm not familiar with the size of the CCS-100, but the Rostra control unit will fit in the tool compartment behind the battery once portions of that box are cut away. I intend to post the installation with pictures some time in the future. Bon, we talked allot at Inzane last year and I will also be at Inzane XVI...

BobB, I look forward to Inzane this year as well. It's always a great time to catch up. I've been thinking about locating a "weather sealed" modulator by the swingarm up high by the kickstand brace and sending the cable up from there. I haven't heard about anyone trying that. The coveted space behind the battery seems to always be contending with other stuff that'll need to be moved.

The CCS-100 will fit in the toolbox behind the battery after you remove the divider. Look on shop talk the whole instructions and photos are there.

Bon, I also coveted the space behind the battery for many years. That's where I had tools, tire repair stuff and a tiny multimeter. When I decided to use that space for the cruise control, I also was forced to assess the tools I carried and hopefully find an alternative space other than the saddlebags. I found that there is about 3" of space above the battery and below my Mustang seat, so I made a tool roll and now carry tools, etc above the battery and cruise control, below the seat...

Rostra makes a fully electronic version of the classic CSS-100. This new version is call the Universal Cruise Control System. The main unit is about the same size as the vacuum version (slightly bigger and square in shape), but no vaccuum canister is needed. I installed mine behind the main dash console on my I/S and ran the cable alongside the throttle cables. An easy mounting bracket was configured and attached to the front cross bar under the air cleaner canister. It all went in fairly easily and fits well. I even have enough room in the front cowl behind the dash to add a small audio amplifier.
I haven't dialed in the cruise control yet as I'm trying to: 1. Verify the number of 'pulses' per mile the stock VSS produces 2. Connect the Rostra 250-4379 CRUISE CONTROL SIGNAL DIVIDER.
From another posting for the 1800 it said that it creates 88750 pulses per mile. With that the dip switch setting for the Global Cruise unit is set to 19300 and the divider is added.
From my guessing this Global Cruise MIGHT fit under the seat, but only if the cover isn't used and some plastic is removed. it

Jersey, the Rostra 250-1223 does fit under the seat, behind the battery with the center section removed and some side cutouts. The servo cable extends out of the right side of the compartment. I cut the back half of the cover off, so now it just covers the battery...

Thanks BobB. I saw that write up showing the placement under the seat. I am using that space to add another small fuse box to handle the extra stuff I'm adding. Really don't like dangling fuses all over the place BTW, what dip settings do you have for you Valk? My current settings are having the engage with do speed increase, but are very sensitive in holding speed and often cause jackrabbitting up and down... as it overthrottles and underthrottles somewhat aggressively.
