If you have installed a Pingel valve on your Tourer, how did you do it.  The tank has a plastic looking liner in the valve bung.  It also protrudes a good 1/16" from the opening.  Is it removable, if so, how.  The Pingel will not insert with screen with liner in place.  The Pingel will not attach correctly with the protrusion of the liner.  I have the correct recommended Pingel.  So, how is everyone installing these valves.  Please, no opinions on coulda, shoulda or woulda.  Don't care about the Standard or Interstate models.  Would like feedback from the Tourer group.  Thank you.

The liner that you refer to is a fuel filter screen. I comes out - often reluctantly. Use a screwdriver to pry it out. The Pingel has its own screen filter and, as you found out, only one is going into the bung hole. All models of Valkyries are the same in this regard.

Just to get this straight in my thick old head.  It looks like a thick-ish piece of plastic pipe inserted in the bung.  I can just pry the hell out of it to remove it and all will be well???  I thank you for the info.  If only people posting their mods would also post the "obvious" steps, life would flow better.  Thanks again!

The tank on a standard is EXACTLY the same as a tourer.  The "Bung" as you say on an IS is exactly the same as the tourer and the standard.  Most people converting to a Pingel figure out that the old fuel filter has to come out.

You sure act like someone that knows this for someone that doesn't seem to

It shouldn't be very hard to pull out. Got mine out when painting very easy no prying the hell out of anything.

Thanks for the smarta$$ and not at all helpful comments.  Why do I question the fact that the piece I am talking about is a filter?  The piece does not extend up into the tank.  It only is in the fitting in the bottom of the tank.  It is more like a spacer/liner piece.  I can see no way that it filters.  I hate to forcefully remove any part that is not clearly removable.

Just grab that "spacer" with a needle nose pliers and yank it out, you will see it is 4 or 5 inches long and fits over the intake pipe of the petcock.

Or, just put the OE one back in.  Maybe, you should take the tank and the new valve to your Honda dealership and have them install it for you.

I agree with Chrisj CMA, just take it to the dealer. They're far more likely to be helpful and trustworthy, and you won't have to deal with smarta$$ remarks.
