I have ~6000 mi. on my OEM tires. They seem to be only 2/3rd done. Although I have not had any problems (wet or dry) I realize that the OEM's are only adequate for the cruiser. As most have learned, the new Valkyrie is a Power Cruiser and would very much benefit from some sticky rubber although the trade off is (Torque Monster=Shorter Tire Life) I love good tires, but I also love money saved! I decided to go with Avon (sorry Adrian) tires. Good handling and sticky tires. And the price was very right! At Motorcycle Superstore, $75.00! (MSRP $185) I bought two. http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/46489/i/avon-3d-ultra-sport-av80-rear-tire

People seem to put these on "litre bikes", those 1000cc crotch rockets that wind up to 12000 rpm and make 200 hp... they only weigh 500 or so pounds... it has a similar load rating to the PR 4... I just got one -Mike

Robert, I bought the Avon AV71, 120/70ZR-19 from Dennis Kirk for $128.98! Sorry Motorcycle Superstore, Dennis beat you out by $25.00. So essentially, a set for $200. I'm liking it!

Sounds good please do a review to let all know what you think of the tires.

From the reviews on the Superstore site, these tires will not last long. I would rather pay a little more, and get something that will last.

You have to take those reviews with a grain of salt...
The one guy said it only lasted a couple of weeks on his 600... ida know...
Another guy... "Outstanding longevity "
Another guy... "Treadlife is amazing. "
Another guy... "Tread life is superb"
It's got a W speed rating and a load index of 73, same as a pr4 gt...

LOL what I find funny is guys riding cruisers commenting on longevity of a tire based on reviews from SPORTBIKE riders.
With a sales pitch of:
A high performance rear motorcycle tire for the stoplight to the checkered flag. With a higher load capacity, this tire is great for liter bikes or very aggressive sportbike riders in track day settings. Get trackday performance with a compound and tread pattern still suitable for street mileage and wet traction with this motorcycle tire from Avon.
Track day setting tells me all I need to know about mileage for that tire. Not to mention where you ride will dictate mileage as well as riding style
Wish the original poster the best with this tire but it is more than this bike needs. If it needed that much tire I would mount up a set of Q3's.

The OP will do just fine. In case you missed it, The tire was a bargain at $75.00, genius. I was just giving a heads-up. Obviously a sportbike (on the track and off) is going to destroy these tires sooner. I hope you find a cruiser tire for less! If so, let us know.

Well thanks for noticing that I am more intelligent than you Track or no track the Valkyrie will most likely SHREAD that tire. Ain't much of a bargain if it only lasts 1500 miles, of course maybe he will just go easy on them. Never said it was a Bargain or that I could get them cheaper. But you can get a set of Contis for around $226 front and rear. But who cares, I never commented on the original poster since he pretty much knew what he was buying.

I shredded an inappropriate tire on my Valkyrie in 2,000 miles. I hope this tire does better than that, but since $75 is all I'm risking, I bet it will be worth at least that... It has similar specs to the Pilot Road 4 GT... -Mike

They are most likely more capable at handing what the Valkyrie can dish out which is most likely more than we can say for you.

First off, I started this thread to give a heads up on a great tire bargain. Some people responded well, some didn't, fine. But please don't respond by saying I don't know anything about tires, because you are going to get a rude response. If you want to take advantage of the info, fine. If you don't, walk away, especially when you really don't know as much as you think you do! I was berated and insulted on the thread that I started. The naysayers hijacked my thread. Kidd, you just need a lot of help. Please go to your nearest psychiatrist! I'm praying for you. Mike I don't think you have worry about this tire! Ride on! LOL!
P.S. The Cobra AV71 (120/70ZR-19) that I will be running up front has a 15,000 mi. warranty.

Subject: Avon AV80
Message: I purchased an AV80 180/55R-17 tire to run on my 2014 Honda Valkyrie GL1800C. I mentioned this on one of the forums and was told that that tire would only last 1500-2000 mi. I really don't think so, but would like your professional opinion. I ride in California on curvy back roads. I have ~1/2" chicken strips. The new Valkyrie is a blast to ride. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks for the email, With these tires you should see about 10,000 miles out of them definitely not 1,500.

I hope you guys do see those kind of miles, but I doubt it only because I personally have never seen the reported mileage people claim.
I must admit if the mileage return is that high it is one hell of a bargain. Riding styles and road surfaces do play a part big time. Maybe the roads here in the Midwest are just more abrasive.

Mine was here when I got home yesterday... looks good I won't install it for a month or so... maybe before InZane, maybe not, depends on what the Pirelli I have on there now looks like then... I'm sure we'll all talk about these things more as we install them and use them... -Mike

I think may be promising. The Cobra AV71 fronts are claimed to be heavy cruiser compatible and have a (1500) Valkyrie-specific model available, as well as a Goldwing-specific model. If the design can handle a Goldwing, and the rating is within weight range spec, I don't see way he wouldn't get good results (within Avon specs, anyway. I had Avons years ago and loved them for their dry road adhesion, found their wet road performance only average, wear average not exceptional, overall a really good balance)

I just bought the rear and after checking my front I will likely be getting the new front as well.
Thanks for the heads up on the deal!
I will be taking a trip from KC to California over the memorial holiday and will let you know how they do. Taking Rt. 66 with a detour to the Grand Canyon.
Hoping for some interesting riding. My first long trip.
