Left the Allen HD dealership at 5am Saturday morning (amazing how many Hondas there were).  The ride was planned for Van Horne, Tx and back in 24 hours.  Weather was ideal and traffic was light.  Something happened to Joe's fuel system.  He ran out of gas in Abilene and the reserve was gone too.  I had the foresight (since we would ride all of west Texas) to have a one gallon gas can in my saddle bag which got him to the next station.  He averaged 15 mpg for the entire ride, soooo we stopped every 60 miles for 4 gallons of gas.  Thinkin it must be the petcock since he had no power at higher speeds either. Nothing leakin or smokin.  Just no mileage or power.  My headlight with nuts in Sweetwater headed home.  Kept blinkin on then off then on again.  Oh well, the folks in cages in front of us thought I was flashing to get through and most moved over (that was nice).  Frustrating!!  All in all it was a great trip.  Raised a lot of money for the Samaritan Inn of North Dallas.  1047 miles in 19 hours 25 minutes.  Not bad with stoppin every 60 miles.  One thing I learned.  I now know why the Iron Butt Association called it the Saddlesore 1000.  Just glad I did not attempt the Bun Burner 1500.

We did the ride just to prove our metal (I think that was the reason).  I'm glad we did it.  Have no desire to do it again.  You have to have completed a SaddleSore 1000 before the IBA will allow you to ride the Bun Burner 1500.  The "real" bikers ride the 10 10ths ride.  That's 10 days and 10,000 miles.  No thanks!!  If anybody in our ranks has done that one, I bow before you. One of Patron's good buddies, Bo Griffin, just did the Iron Butt Rally.  Read all about it at http://www.bogriffinrides.com/html/ibrtracking.htm & http://www.ironbuttrally.com/IBR/2009.cfm

Patron also mentioned some folks do the 50 CC - 50 hours to go coast to coast, typically Jacksonville to San Diego - or the the round trip version, the 100 CCC.  Wow.   uglystupid2
