Got 165K on bike. Getting ready to order parts to replace timing belts.....
Question is when have you changed the (belt tensioner) (ignition pulse generator) (timing belt adjustment spring).....Has anybody found bad bearings in the belt tensioner? Thanks for input..... Alvan crazy2

I just replaced the belts at 110k on Deerslayer.  The other parts showed no wear with no runout or play in the bearings. The ignition pulse either works or doesn't - it's digital. The spring seamed fine to me.

First, you don't want to order the belts from Honda. Go to NAPA or other auto parts store and get some Gates belts, same product supplied to Honda and less than half the price.

As for the other questions, I've only heard of 2-3 cases of bad tensioners. Same for the springs. I've never heard of a bad pulse generator although I'm certain it has happened. All that stuff falls in the category of if it isn't broke, don't fix it. I've seen both Wings and Valkyries with triple or more your mileage with all those parts original except for the belts.

Changed belts and swapped in OEM tensioners at 135k 99 I/S due to a Shrillary under acceleration load.  Springs and pulse sensors looked perfect.

Tensioners had the normal buildup around  the contact surface and one looked like the internal grease was starting to change it's mind.

Easy job, just be patient and don't be afraid to rotate the crank several cycles to make sure the timing marks line up before and after.  The peace of mind and "check twice, twice" is free once your in there.   I DIDN'T pull the plugs BTW, didn't have a problem turning the crank

My bike has 197000 miles on it. Changed the belts about 110k.. nothing else was changed. I did take the time to adjust the valves. Really just checked them as only one or two neede a slight adjustment.

Do the springs set the proper belt tension?

It seems to me that the spring tension before tightening the tensioner so is pretty close if not correct.

+1. AND the Gates belts come with the Honda OEM part number on the box, at least the ones I bought from RockAuto.com did... Man, they were only like $14 apiece.
