Had a no start issue which my testing and the Honda manual showed to be the main starter relay-solenoid-magnetic starter switch-the one with the red plug and the 30 amp fuse. We've all seen the pictures of the melted red plug and heard the horror stores that go with the melt down. My brother came down here to Missouri to sort it out in person. Long story short we found dirty connectors in most of the wiring associated with the starting circuit. Especially the 4 relays in front of the battery box and the red 9 pin plug from the starter switch in the fairing I have in I/S. I'm thinking after my experience that most of these meltdowns are caused by dirty connections. In my case 17 year old M/C at 117000 miles and been driven in a few heavy downpours and other liquid falling from the sky. It IS time consuming to clean these connections up BUT it might keep you enjoying the ride INSTEAD of looking to effect repairs at oh dark thirty in B F E.  Lips Sealed If you do decide to clean these 4 relays access is gained under the left side cover and removal of the radiator expansion tank. Oh-B T W-according to the parts fiche all 4 of those relays have the same part number. Just an F Y I and a heads up!  cooldude OH-one other thing-the bad starter main relay showed a faint sign of starting to cook. RIDE SAFE.

Think I have cleaned and used the dielectric grease on most of mine. Whenever I have done repairs or maintenance I would check and clean connectors I could get to. My starter relay cooked also and I rewired it as someone posted in our forum.

Hopefully newer bikes have a better sealed connector.
