Good Morning... Long ride comfort

I know some of you guys (YB) do a lot of long rides. I'll be going to Rolling Thunder in Washington DC over Memorial Day weekend. it will be 400 miles and I know my tired, old ass will be sore. I've read about bicycle shorts being helpful. Any ideas?
TIA
Rick

Commando....
Actually Rick, best thing I found for all day comfort in hot humid riding
conditions is a sheepskin butt pad to allow air flow under my ass.
Ordered ours from Alaska Leathers....

Rick, I would highly recommend a pair of LD Comfort riding shorts. (LDComfort.com). I've tried a lot of different things over the years, but nothing compared to these. Not cheap, but worth every penny in my view........Good luck

I've used compression shorts with good results, UNTIL it is really hot, then they are much worse than cotton underwear. This stuff about wicking moisture is great, but where exactly is moisture supposed to be wicked when your cheeks are firmly planted on a black vinyl seat all day? JMHO
I live a few miles from the Pentagon parking lot, and have been to a number of Rolling Thunders. Most of them have been hot, hot, hot with no shade anywhere, very few places to pee (with long lines), and the only water is what you brought (so bring some). And your slow rolling, stopping and starting, inching along in a big crowd riding skills had better be good.
A sheep skin cover, or Airhawk cushion are good ideas.
Backed up to a stop on I-395 inside the DC beltway, with bikes 10 across (in three lanes), I had to pee so bad, I got off the bike and ran up an embankment to pee behind a giant electrical panel. I thought I might be anonymous, but I wasn't; in quick time 30 other guys ran up the embankment to share the minimal privacy behind this panel. It was good there were no exposed wires.
On the up side, the girl watching in the Pentagon parking lot before the ride is as good as it gets anywhere.

Rick, I also have LD comfort shorts and like them. They are a bit pricy however. You can wash them in the sink, wring them out and wear them the next day as they will dry overnight.
