Coming back home this weekend from a 600 mile round trip, I could feel vibrations in my right floorboard as well as the highway pegs mounted on the crash bars. Additionally I could also hear slight grinding noise intermittently. Spoke to Ross when I was a few miles away from home and told him the symptoms. Even though I had my suspicion that it was the U-joint, I just wanted a second opinion.

Put the bike on the stand the next day and pulled the final drive and u-joint out. What can I say? I am a bloody lucky bastard. My UJ was just a few miles away from turning into a grenade. I sure am glad that I had ordered a spare UJ from ProCaliber just a couple of weeks back so I could carry a spare with me when I head up for Inzane. New UJ greased and installed, old boot snapped in in less than 30 seconds. I sure am glad that I did not have to invent some new words when putting the boot back on.

I am just glad that I found and fixed this issue well ahead of time before my ride to Morgantown and not otherwise.

That should make you breathe easier. That was probably the best 600 mile trip you could have taken. Just think where you might have been had it happened on the trip east.  cooldude

Having used your spare, get another.  (Ujoint)

I don't have one of everything, but with two bikes, I'll always have a spare Ujoint.  This was before they doubled the price on them.

I had a similar experience.  I felt something bad, headed for home, limped in.  It came out in pieces with a lot of metal dust and filings.  Hmmm.... that's not buffing out.

How many miles on thet u-joint.

Not that many, only about 42,000 miles.

Having used your spare, get another.  (Ujoint)

Definitely, it'll just have to wait till I get back from Inzane.
