Out with the old...in with the wooohoooo!!!!

Ottawa, Ontario

« on: May 27, 2016, 06:34:31 PM »

Hey guys,

As you know I have been shopping around for another set of saddlebags for my bike.  I have looked at all kinds.  I really liked the Victory Cross Country bags, but they were way too long.  Too bad, there are so many options for them.

I have been kicking around the Tsukau bags.  They look nice on the valk.

I have also bid on a few Interstate bags on eBay, but they usually go for $800+.

I have now checked out Calvary saddlebags again, and it looks like they came out with a new bag for Hondas with a smooth front.  The nice thing about them is that they have a nice hinge on the side, they are fibreglass, and they are lined.  They are a new product for this month.

Check them out, and let me know what you think.

Any one have some photoshop skills that can put the bags on a valk?

They sell them for  $795 US or $815 CDN.

I think what you should do is purchase one bag from every company and line them up so we can see them all at once  , then move them around into different positions  , then and only then will we be able to decide what looks best for your Valk .

I still lean towards the Corbin bags , not Corbin seat , you know what I think of their seats , wood !

I took a look at these on the Calvary web site.  Thanks for the link.

Capacity looks good.  Nicely finished.  Top-loading is also good.

If I had hard bags I would want them to be (quickly) detachable.  Are these?

Last question: how do bags for a GL1500 mount to a GL1800?  I'm short on time, tools and skills.  Whatever luggage I choose will have to mount directly to the GL1800 stays.

Thanks again.

I don't think any of them are quick release  , that would be nice and handy  as I never use mine unless I'm going on a trip which is very seldom

There is a set of HD police bags on my local craigslist for $225, been on there a few weeks now, I'm thinking of offering $175. They are same as the regular Dresser hard bags but have a more convenient open/close latch, just don't know how square bags will look on a round bike... Undecided

As I said before, they are only wood if you allow them to make it wood.  They seem to have a mental image of the "typical" rider: 5 foot 10 to 6 foot 2, 210+ to 270 pounds.  If you don't fit that pattern, Corbins out of the box won't truly fit you.  But that doesn't mean you have to settle - talk to them!  I had my foam softened, my pocket moved 2 inches forward and a nose job (if I had to do it all again, I'd probably skip the nose job).  I just did 300 miles today in 7 hours of mixed interstate and state roads, and the seat is far, far superior to the stocker and wasn't hard at all.  With MoP DD's, this was a pretty painless ride.

My thoughts? It is like seats or oil discussions, you have done amazing modifications to your ride Brian, pick the bag that will make you happy, if you are willing to do the Corbin cost wise than I feel you can do anything. I feel that you want a high quality bag, and I hope you end up with a high quality bag that gives you the look you want.   cooldude
