Well down here in Fla for those not familiar with the rain here it can get torrential, but across the street it could be clear and dry. Well I was on

a ride and knew that if I went out to the Lake that I may have problems with a nasty looking cloud that just would not pass. Thats another

thing if you wait long enough usually the rain passes within like 20 minutes. Well As I take my ride the weather except for this one area was

beautiful, sunny, clear, hot and was enjoying the ride down back roads. The lake was so full they had the gates open to drain some off the water out people were fishing and it was just beautiful.  Well as

I went to head back home the road I usually go down looked like

it headed right into this cloud and I could see it was raining. I really didn't want to go further south and wanted to get home. So I took the road

and sure enough before to long I was in the thick of the rain. Now here when it rains it rains hard. I had not really been on this bike on that big

a downpour and said it will be a great learning experience. Its a divided hwy 2 lanes on each side right through the middle of the everglades and

the cane fields. There was only one car behind me and I had the whole road to myself. When it started to come down and I found that only the

tops of my legs and my arms were wet and the bike was handling like there was no rain, I really began to be like a kid playing in the mud

puddles. OH was it fun, a bit cold but fun as the rain pelted my hands and doing like 60 the bike was just humming along. Quiet, rain pouring into

the cane fields the smell was that fresh smell that comes with the new rain. Watched some birds duck for cover and the fields just took on a

different look. The rain hitting the windshield and streaming off the side so that I crouched down for cover and it protected me from the rain.

There was one stop light in miles up ahead and still raining. I like it in the rain while driving and no traffic but to come to a light now the rain

will come straight down on me. Sitting in the rain doesnt do it for me but I pulled up to the light next to this woman on a Harley in full rain

gear and helmet and face shield. We were stopped for the light and made small talk and I was thinking if I should stay with her but when the

light changed I bid her goodbye and took off. 65 and not a car in site in the mirror just water and the big tire separation in the water from me.

As I went along I looked up ahead and could see where the clouds and rain stopped. As I drove along sure enough the rain was less and less

until I was back in beautiful 95 degree sunburn weather. As Im smiling as riding along my shirt and pants are drying and and the only left over

from all the rain was the spots on my sunglasses and the occasional spotting on my bike. As I rolled into my driveway I was almost completely

dry and warm again since the rain had been a bit cool and thought

WOW that was a blast.

I was wondering about others experience in the rain as I cleaned the bike and still had the smile on my face.

Alas Robert, it's been raining here in Paris for days and it will carry on through the week. Temperatures are not so high either, it looks like november to tell the truth. The only good thing is that there are fewer scooters, the bad thing is that the cars don't see you.
Even though I have a Michelin PR4 Trail on the front, I think the front is too light in curves when the road is sore wet and I'm really cautious. I don't really mind the rain (though my BMW gloves ares supposed to be waterproof  Angry) but I know I'd be more secure on a BMW  Embarrassed

Why do you feel that way about the BMW? Just curious. I have had no problems in the rain with this bike.

@Robert : the Valk is really heavy and big and these days I must drive carefully and slowly. It was easier with my last two BMWs K1200 R/GT (sync. brakes, lighter, more powerful +/- 155 HP), not to mention the R1200 GS 2013 piece of cake anytime or even the KTM 990 SMT relax whatever the road conditions  :cool dude:
I loved these bikes because I didn't have to focus that much (especially the K1200 GT 2009 I had for 110,000 km)  Smiley

I understand the Valk is not a sport bike but the more I ride it the more I find myself treating it like a much smaller and lighter bike. I find the bike can do much more than I think it can and it does it well.

I find the Valk extremly easy to ride and manuver in parking lots and what have you. The low center off graving is pretty sweet on this bike. No its not the best handling bike out there but for its size its absolutely amazing.
Pound for pound I guarantee that its the bet handling bike out there.

Absolutely...the bike really doesn't feel that big to me at all..seriously...and I'm relatively a small person...(180lbs max). I whip this bike around quite easily...  and can dart through turns/lanes..slow speed/parking lot maneuvers are a piece of cake...  The only time it seems *sort* of large is if I have to back it up a hill in reverse...

Last weekend I let a Road Star rider try out my Valk (at my insistence cooldude the bike intrigued him).  He came back with one word, direct quote, "WOW!"

Although he didn't open it up (backroads, and he didn't feel comfortable walloping my bike) he had plenty to say about the handling.  He said 'its so easy and sticks to a line, boom!'.  He's my height but thought that the bike, even with the slightly lowered Corbin seat with a nose job, was tall - which utterly and completely sticks to the point I constantly harp to the magazine writers online about, if people consider an under 30-inch tall seat "tall" I wish they would get off their high horse (semi-pun intended) and pull their heads out of their butt and stop saying that a 32-inch tall seat is 'average'.

During the same meet I talked up a Harley rider who was looking for a change, and when he heard how cheap Valks are going for nowadays, his ears perked up.  Wink  He, also, felt the bike was "tall" but he's 2-inches taller than me and felt he could get used to it (my knees have a strong bend in them at any stop but I guess I have longer legs than average for my overall [average] height).

Maybe I'll get a convert soon... laugh

I had a new Road Glide and was getting ready to put a chunk of change in it to get the power levl to where I wanted it. Already did a Stage 1. I seen a old friend who had a new blue Valkyrie. Took in a for about a 10 mile ride and was extremely impressed.
Sold the Road Glide the next day and bought the Valk. I don't think I've ever been so impressed with a bike for the overall package.
So I guess you could call me a convert.  coolsmiley
