Guys, I'm torn.  I just sold an '04 Vulcan 2000 b/c I saw new, '14 Valks advertised for ~$10,500 in the midwest.  But I never realized that the lack of a decent windshield would be so drastic.  I drive 35 miles of I80 to and from work and I need a windshield to avoid getting beat up by the semi tractors.  But I keep reading how the mounts are flimsy or work loose and I agree with a lot of others that the Honda windshield is at the wrong angle to look right and it seems like an afterthought.  I have yet to see a Gustafson Max Tour installed on a bike, but I do not want the shield to cover my hands like fairing.  Getting very discouraged.  Advice?

I have the tall Hondaline shield and, while I agree it's a bit upright, I like it quite well.  In my opinion, the mounts are not flimsy and haven't worked loose in a year.

Ironically, i just removed it just as an experiment.  Boy, it sure makes  a HUGE difference at highway speeds.  I knew I'd be putting it right back on.  Sure, it doesn't look quite as natural as my '98 Valk Tourer's shield but it's not bad.  I don't think you'll be disappointed overall, if you get the tall one..and you'll love the bike for sure!

Agreed , my  'kyrie with the tall shield  does suck , I am jealous when I see other bikes with a shield that lays back  .
You can add a bracket at the bottom and will make the top tilt back some .
I add one about 2" and was way too much  , took it off and have not  replaced it with shorter one .
Will  someday

I did add a MRA x creen  to the top , removes a lot of the buffetting

Check out the Secdem windshield. www.secdem.fr . Members Ledany, and Sheffjs have them and seem to be the biggest shield for the Valkyrie 1800 and looking the best, having proper angle and proportions.  It mounts in 4 spots so should be plenty strong. Check those members posts for pics, or the website.

I fiddled with mine a whole bunch, but I sure am glad I got it.

$10,500 is a great deal...

The OEM windshield is too straight up-and-down, but the mounts
are solid. That's a cut-down OEM windshield on my bike, but nothing
about the mounts or handlebars are OEM...

1+ year with the Secdem and I don't even think about my windshield until after the ride and I clean the bugs off.    cooldude

I would think at 10500 the Valk would win hands down in the comparison to the Vulcan. It also makes a difference if you like 2 or 6 cylinders. The windshield is a non issue really, I dont go as many miles as you to work but I am out everyday on mine and a windshield is a must. I have the Hondaline and love it especially in the rain. The little wider is better for keeping rain off you and I have it tilted back just a bit since I modified the mounts and the look is fine. Never in all the times that people compliment me on the bike do I ever hear anything about the windshield being to big. I have also never had the mounts work loose or need to be tightened and I have had some pretty good wind hitting the thing. I have also never lost a race to a Vulcan  Wink

I owned a new VN2000 back in 04, the Valk is a far superior ride including the function of the tall OEM windscreen.

Cool Honda tall windshield is superior in every way if your tall and has heavy duty  mounts. any windshield is better than nothing

Don't worry about windshields, AT ALL.  Many fit, the Secdem is really nice, many standard handlebar-mount shields will fit and not a single person mentioned Gustaffson

http://bikescreen.com/collections/popular-items/products/honda-goldwing-valkyrie-f6c-2014-2015

who make SIX different sizes PLUS are willing to do custom heights.  The "Euroflip" is fantastic and, after years of riding behind the style, it is why I bought the Gustaffson and I haven't been disappointed.

Looking at my 'kyrie  from the side , the shield  does slant in line with the forks .
Wish it slanted more

I really enjoy my new Valk.... I have the Blue one... I have had many bikes of all sizes, and I do believe this is no doubt my best ever... WHen I was looking at bikes I was going to pick up a mid size, and it just wasn't exciting, the Valk just kept coming to my mind. I just wasn't excited about anything other then the Valk.... I took my time, and looked 5 times at mid size, and I kept looking over at the valk, and made me think, oh ya, thats what I really want... So, I took the chance and bought the Valk... I hated to spend that kind of money, even though it was over 5000 bucks off MSRP. ANyway, I am so happy I sprung for the Valk... One thing, when the weather is crappy, and I don't get out on it for a few days or more, I realize why I bought this machine when I do get back in the saddle.... and just love it.... Sometimes a little time away, and its just an amazing bike when I get back on it.

I have the OEM Honda tall, and I am happy with it......

I bought a windshield for an ATV and modified it to what I like. it works great, although I would like it about an inch and a half higher.

10,5' US$ for a 1832 Valk ?! The demo bikes here in France are 16,4' US$ minimum, with a few km on it. You guys in the new world have such incredible prices, I understand now how come you may have several bikes plus cars  Evil

The french windshield from secdem is nice, I can ride the whole year through though it doesn't cover the hands, alas  Wink The confort it provides is really awesome and it is adjustable depending on your size or the season. I lowered it a bit for the summer and will set it in a more upright position next winter. With this windshield I can ride as smoothly and comfy as with my former BMWs  cooldude
