Despite the forecast of rain, 5 riders (Speedo-Ron, Valkpilot-David, RainMaker-Mark, Brew1Brew-Les, HBA (Harley Bad Ass)-James) came out Saturday morning for a splendid ride/monthly meeting to Mary's Café in Strawn.  Speedo led the ride and after a 30 minute run around Lake Worth, one missed turn resulting in a return to the starting point, we hit our stride and the journey to Strawn.  There were some nice twisty roads, beautiful scenery and a stop in Lipan for water and gas, then onto the mecca of chicken fried steak joints, Mary's.

They have a nice covered parking area for motorcycles which we all took advantage of and were seated pretty quickly considering how busy it was and the celebrations going on in Strawn that day.  All picked the chicken fried steak as the meal.  They have 3 sizes - small, medium and large.  This translates to enough for 2, enough for 4 and enough for 6.   Most plates were left with food on them - not due to trying to consume it all.  It was so good!

Yeah, this is the small one.

Les, David, James, Mark and Ron getting ready to dive in.

James was with us on his Sportster - he is an old friend of mine from high school days.  He has unmodified pipes so it wasn't too loud for my delicate ears and he rode 3rd.  That 883 had no problems accelerating or keeping up with our 6 cylinder beasties.

After chowing down, we went up 16 to 180 and turned east.  Went through Palo Pinto and there Speedo and I stopped to visit the Palo Pinto Old Jail Museum Complex (http://www.palopintohistory.com/special-places/18-old-jail-museum-complex.html) while Valkpilot, Brew1Brew and HBA headed back to the metromess.  The lady running the museum stayed open past closing time to talk to us about the complex, the exhibits and was very nice.  This is my second visit and I'll be back for a 3rd - the exhibits change about every 45 days.

I've heard that David and Les found the elusive rain on their way back.  I know that Ron and I did not get a drop on our trip, which was important to me as I had washed 4 years of grime off my bike on Friday and wanted to keep it clean for at least a week!

A good ride.

Speedo is working on a trip to Vaughn's on Lake Bob Sandlin in a few weeks.  This is the catfish mecca.  All you can eat place with catfish so expertly prepared, you want to eat more than you can eat, if that makes sense.  Here's a link for Vaughns https://www.facebook.com/VaughansCatfish

It was a fun day of riding, ValkPilot and I got a little damp riding home around the north side of Ft Worth, even had a little bit of hail, well almost hail, it pinged off my helmet but was smaller than pea size.

Mark, thanks for coordinating this one.
