A sad day that changed too much.

Another pic i had to add, Pappy had mentioned in a post how he noticed the contrails from jets when he was there the day before we went. This was how the sky looked as we pulled in a day later.

I started noticing the contrails miles before entering the Memorial. They were eerie.
The walkway at the Memorial is laid on the exact flight path the ill-fated plane took that morning. There is a time line laid into the stones as you walk it. The closer you got to the overlook at the end of the walkway the more you "felt".....
A sign says it is both a field of honor and a field of horror.
I cannot imagine what was going through the minds of those souls as the plane, at 540 MPH,  flew upside down and at a 45 degree angle straight into the hillside. There was no bounce and no long furrow, only a small crater and outlines of both wings. There is now a sandstone boulder at that spot.
The largest piece ever found was fuselage skin at 6'X7'. Most were tiny, inches at best.
Passengers were identified by DNA alone.
You can feel something at the crash site.

This  Reminds Me Of Flight 592 That Went Down So Deep In The Muck, In The Everglades On May 12 1996 That They Were Unable To Recover Any Of The 109 Passengers !

Bert I pass that memorial any time I go to Miami on US 41, it's on the north side of the road. It's a rather strange looking memorial consisting of what looks like a series of vertical concrete pilings driven to different depths. Gives the appearance of a downward slope from the back to the front.

Life is like a hot bath. It feels good while you’re in it, but the longer you stay in, the more wrinkled you get.

That memorial is in need of a good cleaning.
