This is my last hope here; the 750 ACE board couldn't solve this, so I was hoping those of you who have helped with my Valkyrie tech problems might offer suggestions. Here's the skinny:
My 2002 Shadow ACE Deluxe has about 20,000 miles. Maintenance has been done by me regularly and all has been good. A couple weeks ago, I started down the road. The first mile was fine, as usual, but then the bike started coughing and loosing power. I managed to make it back home, but in that one mile my pipes turned blue from (I assume) a very lean condition. It had been running fine before that, and I changed nothing, including fuel.

So here's what I have done: I've replace fuel, replaced plugs (looked okay), replaced fuel filter, removed carbs and cleaned them, but the jets looked fine. I still cleaned them with gumout and blew them with air. All diaphrams look good - no tears or holes. There are no vac lines that I can find; everything looks fine. I then bypassed the fuel pump and gravity fed the carbs, and it's still the same. I can find no air leaks. So... tech geniuses on the board, any suggestions before I swallow my pride and take it to the dealer? Thanks.

Check your battery under load.
A bad battery will give you those symtoms.
Other than that it seems that your taking the proper steps to diagnose your problem.

No, I had not checked the battery yet. I have a new battery on my Valkyrie, which is the same as the Shadow, so I'll temporarily switch them out. Thanks.

But what about the blue pipes. The battery wouldn't do that would it?

Not familiar with the 750 but have you checked the inlet connections from the carbies to the heads?
Would also pay to check the ignition timing.

Carbs are tightly sealed to the heads, and I plan to check the timing this weekend. Thanks.

Worked on a friends '01 Vulcan 750 last year that developed the same symptoms you describe. Took carbs apart (2) jets were clean, took air cutoff diaphragms out and both had sizeable holes in them (they looked as if they had melted). Replaced with new, problem diminished but not gone. Pulled petcock out, it was gunked up and and twisted. Replaced petcock with new, problem gone, bike ran like new.
