Ever since I put the pingle valve on my tank I have yet to know how much reserve I have. Well on this trip I got to know exactly how much reserve there is  Me Pappy & Billy were up on the Blue Ridge for many miles on an weekend full of traffic, we were tooling along when I hit reserve and realized we were a good ways from any Gas stations  So we stopped and Pappy found a small little switch back road that would bring us down off the mountain....cool !! So we get moving down this road and half way down my tank goes dry  I shut off my key so Billy would notice that my lights were out and so was my fuel. I was using the gears to slow me down and speed up when I needed to. We must have rolled 3 miles or better down this mountain to a straight away and a red light. As soon as I got to the light it turned green and I rolled down the street to a gas station and right up to the pump  I put in 5.2 7 gallons of fuel and got 172 miles out of the tank. Just a note, my bike is a pig on fuel, every time me and Pappy fueled up he took almost a full gallon less then me each time. I don't know if it is the combination of my fat arse and my fairing? But he killed me on fuel mileage. My bike couldn't run better and I have no complaints, but that is a huge difference over the entire trip in fuel?

Nick, there is a way to increase the reserve to match the OEM version, but it's rather involved. I'd suggest leaving it alone and go with what you learned on this trip.

We calculated that Nick has 14-15 miles max, on reserve, at his average MPG. The same 171 miles I had not hit reserve yet and took 3.9 gallons. We proved the math on the way back from Valdosta as well. We figured, within 5 miles, when he would hit reserve and nailed it.

I have less than 30 miles to empty when on reserve, at least I know now

Nick, your not alone, I filled up yesterday. I had 142 miles and should have hit reserve anytime, I put 4.4 gal. =32mpg same as yours. My bike is running great, I have got less and I have got up to 37 once. I don't do many long rides so I'm usually good  just figure on gassing up at 145 miles and your good to go

Because the BRP is 45 with no lights, I've gotten the best mileage ever riding it. Before I learned to plan ahead for gas stops, I've really stretched out my tank several times on the BRP. My interstates are generally 220 miles to reserve (but I slow feed every drop I can get in the tank on fillups), but on the BRP I made it to 250 and still did not hit reserve... course I started coasting down all the hills in neutral to conserve gas after 220. I know why I ate up gas on the BRP, I like to stay in the power band when decelerating and climbing the hills. It keeps me off the brakes as I use the rpm's to slow me down, my RPM's were always in the 3500/4500 range. But when ridding home with Pappy we were maintaining the same brisk speed, and he was killing me in MPG? I think that my fairing may have something to do with it, or it could be the jetting of the carbs? Never had these carbs out yet so don't know what's in her? Regardless, I don't mind filling her up, she runs very strong and I am not messing with her till I have too.

Massively surprised tonight when I hit reserve on the 1500 at 118!!! And it was a very mellow tanks worth ride wise. And yes with a Pingle, you think you have a PIG!!!!

Wow that is bad?  Riding in normal fashion, as we do when we go thru the woods of Brooksville, I have gotten close to 145 miles before reserve? Like TJ said, I think it is a Right Wrist Problem

No the last tank was mellow however it was two up and I do not top off like others do.

On My standard I usually hit reserve around 130 have gone to 150 but not often. On my IS around 190 but have gone to 220+. It just depends on wind and the twist of the wrist don't really notice much difference single or two up.

Hate the idea of running out of fuel so I put on a belly tank. Really makes a big difference in thinking about fuel and you can get rid of the Pingle.
