Howdy, everyone.  This is my first post, and I am so happy that I found this resource.

I just replaced the petcock on my 2002 Valkyrie.  The petcock is still wet with the normally expected smell.  There is not enough of a leak that it puddles, but I must have 0 (zero) leak to be able to store her in the garage.

It occurs to me that I may have missed a gasket between the petcock and the tank.  There was not one that came out with the old one.

Should there be a gasket or O-ring between the petcock and the tank?

Yes! There's a Viton O-ring that goes in between the tank and the petcock.
