The previous owner of my bike installed a strobe function. When I press on the brake, it normally blinks about 4 times, then stays on steady. When not pressing the brake, the tail light stays lit.

I took all the fenders off the bike to paint them. Now that it's all together, when I hit the brake it lights up for about a second, then the brake and tail light turn off completely.
I tried finding the strobe module, but can't. The original circuit with the brown wire seems normal. Everything else on that circuit is fine (gauge lights, license plate light, etc...)

This is not one of those add on led strobes. Whatever it is works on the OEM brake/tail light, and was installed over 5 years ago.
Only thing I can think of is buy a tone generator and follow the signal throughout the bike.

Any other ideas?

Needs tracing.
Mis-wired, bad module, bad ground, I would check ground first.

I mounted mine under the seat back toward the tool box.  So might want to look there.

Yeah, that's my impulse. It's not miswired at the light or anywhere in the rear fender.
I wish I could find that module. I guess I'll just need to put a tone generator on it.

Hmm, do you remember the brand name of what you used?
Does yours work through the OEM tail light?
If you could give me any info to help me find it. That would be great!

I guess mine must be under the gas tank. I traced the brown/green wires in that circuit and they don't route to anything extra that I can see.
Thanks,
L

I had one on my I/S that was called a signal minder . It stroked the brakes and controlled the trunk lights also. But it started acting up and losing the right blinker. I ended up just removing it. It was under the right side panel. I think it was made by Kisan. Wouldn't mind getting another though, it made people take notice when braking.

I honestly don't remember the maker but it worked with a round array of LED's that fit in the tail light housing.  Turn signals remain as bulbs.  The board is less than a inch square and is not mounted in any kind of box or module.

OK, fixed it.
Since there was obviously no little black box, and the brow/green pair hadn't been cut into, it had to be the bulb.
Sure enough, I pulled the bulb out and it has a little circuit board at the top of the base.
I put in a standard taillight bulb and all is well.
I'll have to do a search for another bulb like that.

Well, that didn't take long.
Here's the one I had to replace:

Here's an LED verison, that I'm going to buy:
