I was talking to a fellow rider, a female, and she asked "is that your big Honda in the parking lot?" Well yes it is. It's a Valk. Then she asked what year model it is.  I answered that it was a 1998.  She responded, "your bike is pretty for an old bike."

WHAT!

When did my bike become old? It's only...1O years, no, wait, what year is it now...it is only 11 years old.
My first bike was a 1974 in 1998, followed by a 1979/1980 in the early 2000s.  My Valk still feels like a newish bike to me. I've only had it a few years. I've only put a little over 60 thousand miles on it. It still feels new to me.

Sure, it's dirty. and I need to change the oils (including fork oil). It does feel like an old friend. But it still feels like a newish bike to me.

Are any of the rest of you shocked to hear that this is an old bike?

Most women (and some uninformed guys) think it must be a Harley Davidson!  With that huge engine, what else could it possibly be?!  One guy that walked half way across the parking lot at a Kroger store to see the bike and was completely "ga ga" over the bike until I told him it was a Honda.  Then he walks back and tells his girlfriend..."It's only a Honda"!  What an idiot!

Consistently the ladies always like the looks of the Valkyrie, and they usually assume that they are brand new until being told otherwise.

I don't focus on the "It's old" as much as "wow it looks new". Proud to have a 12 year old bike that looks better then many that are newer then her.  laugh

Quite often I'll have a man come across a parking lot and ask me "What to heck is that thing,
Is that a car motor?"

This past spring the wife and I spent some time in Laconia during Bike Week.  One night we stop to eat at a local BBQ joint.  One lonely Valc in a sea of Harleys.  Had a great meal and after we got mounted up to leave a gnarley HD type comes striding up to us.  Whoops, here comes trouble it looks.  Guy gets up to us, smiles, sticks out his hand and tells us that he was admiring the Phat Lady while he was eating, and tell us how awsome she looks.  Good feeling, if only he looked better In a
dress!!!

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

Was up at a local bike/wing night Wed when I rolled in solo and parked amoungst the HD's. I was the 2nd other 'Made in USA' bike there. Walked through the smoking patio and went in to get a drink. I came out to hang at the patio, so's to see others roll in. As I'm standing there 2 guys walked out and looked it over very well. I expected them to come in and ask me about her but they just sat down. I was hoping to race a couple of Outlaws but they left as I was getting ready to leave.  Undecided

I translate this into, "I'd like to sleep with you."

.....someone once told me that my Valk was....pretty..

......bout 8 years ago...back in good ol jersey....was heading up north to Freehold to Freehold Honda....they were having an open house.....

....Id never been there before so I got up in Freehold and I knew it couldnt be far off....I stopped in this gas station and asked for directions to....Freehold Honda....guy standing outside tells me he,s not 100% sure...but he thinks its on such and such a road...and tells me how to get there....then he looks my bike over and says.....Im a "Harley Man".......but your bike sure is.....pretty.....and gives me...that grin..

.....I had shut my bike down because I had Two Brothers ...Six into Six exhaust on it at the time....I looked back at him...reached down...slowly turned the key....started it up....LOUD and WICKED....with a growl only Two Brothers or Cobras can produce.....and replied....pretty ?.......you mean.....Pretty Fast ??

......I lit her up and took off down the street...speed shifting the first 3 gears and shut her back down at the light...but not before hitting close to 70 in less then 8th of a mile....

...always wondered if I....redefined....his definition of...Pretty..  coolsmiley

Freehold Honda has a great blowout every year at their open house. I try to go every year since, thats where I bought mine. alot of the faces have changed but, Bill, sales manager, seems to be a fixture. as with lennie and ronnie reagan. Just like the people there.

Wait until you roll the odometer over, and then put about 6 or 7 thousand more on it.  When my 97 red and white was at 106K (showing 6K of course)  I asked a guy at bike nite who rode in on a brand new Vulcan with like 300 miles on it to look at my odometer.  He says "WOW" I thought he was taken aback at the low number......then he says "You already have 6K on this baby!"  I just stared at him in disbelief....then he goes "Isint it new?'
