Everyone is probably visiting friends over the holiday.

The battery was dead so when I got home I figured out how to pull the seat and went to take the side covers off. Pulled the left side off and BAM huge black widow with eggs.

I'm kind of scared of spiders, and by kind of scared I mean I nearly lost my arm to a brown recluse when I was young so I'm TeRrIfIeD! The manly like scream was epic as I jumped back and demanded a killing tool. Death by brush.

The bike started fine with a jump.

I can laugh at that, a couple years ago, went to move the bike and a giant wolf spider was on the tank. when he saw me he went under the seat, I did not ride the bike until I found him. couple days later he was on the seat and I killed it. If that sob had crawled out on me while riding, I am afraid me and the bike would have parted company. I do not get along with 8 legged freaks.

Hey Don.  Just got to the cottage. Sherry and I will be driving up to Sixlowland with the dogs tomorrow am and spending the night taking the gear as he has an extra bike for us.  We will be around for a ride on Monday or Tuesday if that helps.  Nick says boat and Jack says local ride on red.  Did you call goldwing Steve?

Back in the dirt bike days ripen it up with Mike I was flying down the single track trail and a Golden Orb Spider crawled over my visor and was making its way towards my face!  Do you know how big this thing was!  That was the fastest stop dismount and helmet off in history.  Now to find they are harmless.

LOL!
It most likely would be me without Kim. She does not like the nice warm riding weather like I do!

I also got nailed by a brown Recluse. Went into the hospital with BP sitting at 90 over 50. Not good.
We had tons of widows at work a couple years ago. The record was 8 in one week. We had a mass spray-a-thon due to the fact that I refused to work on any of the new stock boats and our trailers until they were gone!!

Thanks for all the responses, guys. I am not fond of spiders, myself. In fact, one crawling across ny face shield would probably have resulted in the same response as Jerry's.

Lunch in Brooksville on Monday sounds like a winner to me. I will be hitting the Webster Bike Swap with Steve and Eddie and John, tomorrow. Goldwing Steve has joined the board, and will show up as soon as OK'd. He is headed to the range to try out a new rifle this morning, and I am meeting him there. We may ride together later.

Has anyone made any decisions about when and where we will meet for the RTE, and when and where we will eat??? I have to go to the range 1st thing in the morning, but will most likely be leaving there NLT 9:30, and then it will take me an hour to get back home. I may end up meeting you all at the Restaurant with the Valkyrie, or even with the cage, depending on the time frame.

If others commit to Coney say 11:00 or so we are in. However it just looks like Grumpy is correct the holiday has everyone busy.

Please chime in anyone who wants to go.

I can commit to Coney as early as 11:30, to allow me time to get home from the range and then ride back to Brooksville. I will check this thread before leaving for the range.

Speaking of taking apart and putting back together. Where should I start on looking over my new to me 2003? She needs a damn good polish and I was thinking of buying a Honda service manual. I've also read up that the drive shaft and belts should be looked at shortly after purchase. I can't really ask Ricky what maintenance he did on it, so I'm going to assume it was little to none to be on the safe side.

Where do I begin oh wise ones?

I dont recall if you posted the current mileage on your 03. I can not find a miles lifetime/replacement recommendation in my GL1500 Wing service manual . But  if orignal your looking at 13 year old belts, which age in use or sitting still . I expect its actually worse on bikes which sit long periods. Anyhow in automobiles I believe its noted to change at 60K miles . To me its worth the 40ish $ to pick up a new set from NAPA and have the piece of mind its done.

The driveline needs Honda PRoMoly 60 paste. It has a high content of molybdenum disulfide . Some dealers now have a newer version called assembly lube , sorry I cant give you the correct name. Either way this lube  needs to be put on the drive shaft splines from the trans output shaft (both sides of the U-Joint), the rear of the shaft splines and the drive hub splines.
I do this to my Wing1500 yearly or at rear tire replacement if thats sooner, but its a daily rider bike.

The GATES belt part# is T 275 . NAPA sells gates brand packaged for NAPA , If I remember correctly there # is 20275

The Valk has 36K on it. I don't know of any NAPAs around my area in Florida but I'm savvy with the internet. I'll get 2 belts on order. The lube should be easy to find and I'll also be getting a Honda oil filter. Best to do a fluids change all around.

I doubt you will need the belts. I checked mine as recommended at 100,000 miles & they were fine. I would be most concerned about fuel & vacuum hose deterioration along with rear spline lubrication and pinion cup condition/lubrication. Carbs are always a consideration for a Valk that sat a while.
