Recorded the first time I've really hit the gas with my wife on the back. Disclaimer: The end convo is referring to an incident that was not naughty at all. Warm water does things. Be gentle when you give me hell. Especially you Jerry!  2funny

Me give grief?   5mph blast to 123 with Sherry on.  ------ She just says do it again!!

Haven't done it lately.   Must me mellowing in my old age.

Did see on the 1800 board where one the riders took his 1800 to the track and after a few runs got a 11.41.  My understanding is a stock 97 has been clocked at 12.05.   For these big bikes it is just too cool!!!!  So for the 1500, not only do you enjoy the feeling of a big bike that truly is THE road king, it is that fast as well.  You know there are a lot of 1800 and 1500 Valk owners now! Robert you still have yours correct?

Good try Moof, but the video doesn't reflect the actual torque felt and butt dyno results whilst upon the beast. It must be rid to be appreciated !  Cheesy

In my experience, doing performance runs at night makes it much harder to see the cops (who in my town are out every night trying to find the one-in-six drunk drivers who are out wandering around in the dark).

Otherwise, cool.

That was the main road to my house so I know where the police would sit. I mostly wanted to give my wife a happy squeal but I wasn't expecting the front end to get so damn light. Her added (ahem) mass on the back changed things up a bit.

No worries Jack, I know that if I was to taunt you it would not be 1800 it would be Attic Rat. And you keep seeing that post in the classified board.   2funny  Cheesy  Roll Eyes

I wonder not so much the hp but the quarter mile times of an attic rat Valk. I feel I would rather have an attic rat over a blower.

you too could join the 1800 bliss for the low price of $10k to $13k! see various dealers for details.

Jerry, you're correct re. quarter mile times with the '97 version. However, it didn't necessarily need to be a '97 to bust 13 seconds. I did it one time when the bike was new(to me), didn't have 5k on it at the time, still had factory warranty. I took it out to the strip east of Orlando(run what you brung), made 3-4 runs all in the low 13's so just for giggles I removed the windshield and bags....she looked like a standard. I still had stock exhaust but had gone to an I/S ICM and I/S carb springs....nothing more. With that I finally busted 13, clocked a 12.91 if memory serves....don't recall the speed but was over 100. When I rolled back to the area where I had been parked all the snide remarks about Jap bikes disappeared, was rather quiet. I mounted the shield and bags and left. Felt great....actually the silence all around me after that run made it feel really great.  Grin

I have no idea what it would do today, and have no intention of finding out. Anybody my age, there's two things you don't need: A really fast bike, and a mistress. Both will get you killed.  Wink

Jack, you know we all have that next button we want to push. Lately (now don't tell Sherry) I want another 1500. It will have to be a want for now. At least I can have fun planning it all out in my mind.

so I posted my ride report from earlier today on a different thread... as it relates to this thread there were a few opportunities where i "needed" to pass a car or 2 with my wife on the back... Holy Moly are Valks fast from 75 mph to about 100...and without downshifting from 5th!  My wife had to hold on tight.  I think I cover < 150 yards.  So then at the next opportunity from about 65 mph I kicked down to 4th and blasted past an RV reaching 110 and probably inside of 100 yards.  I could feel She wanted to keep pulling (but wife was applying the death grip to both my arms).  Anywho, the point is...WHOA!  These Dragons are highway beasts...

I remember thinking shortly after I got my first 1500 black Interstate that this is the first bike that is truly the real deal, and I have had faster bikes.

Unfortunately for many who are selling 1500s Craigs List is littered with cheap Valkyries. The 1500 is going through a costly update and I have tires and some powdercoating to do on the 1800 close after the 1500 is done, I'm pushing the boundaries with the CFO of the family so this is down the road.  And it would start with a tourer in black.

I feel you Jerry! I now have projects for the projects and can't buy another vehicle or bike until they are done. The foot has been planted and its footprint says, "NO!"

That all being said, rebuilding my baja bug and fitting a sidecar on the 2003 are pretty big projects.... I can see my wife's point.

Putting the foot down seems to be a wife thing, can't figure out why it only works one way.  Wink  I found a nice looking 1500 Wing for $2k, fast black, had been in storage for some time, and suggested this would make a great project. Good grief, you'd think it was "Chicken Little...the sky is falling" all over again. Last word on new projects is....."finish the 1200 and clean out some of YOUR junk(JUNK? Shocked) in the garage. I want to be able to go through there with my walker without feeling like I'm on a slalom course."  Oh well.....there's always next year....or the year after.....or the year after that. Or maybe not, just realized that puts me in my early 80's. Then again, why not. I want to still be around to bug Eddie about riding in temps close to the surface of the sun.  Cool

I don't know about you John, but if Viv didn't limit my spending by being the voice of reason, I'd have blown the bank account about 45 years ago. We've been married 46. From time to time I thank her. But then the next time around I try to convince her again of the wisdom of buying the latest thing to hit my hot button. Never ending struggle. Kind of like the "balance of nature" I think.  Wink Wink
