A while back the little "door" on my ignition lock came loose in there somehow...

Anyhow, it got harder and harder to get the key in and out, the local locksmith said she
could take the ignition lock apart and get the little door out so it wouldn't gum up the works,
but not fix the little door, so I hemed and hawed and ended up getting a lock set, they're not
too much from HDL...

Since I have the center cover off now, it seems like the right time to go for replacing all the locks,
and I've just been looking at the saddlebag locks... I don't see how I can switch them out without
removing the latches, and the latches have this hardened anti-leak goo around the three holes
that the bolts go through that basically have the latch glued on.

Have any of y'all done this before? Got any hints? I checked the manual pretty well without
seeing anything in there that helps...

Why re-key everything?

Get a replacement ignition switch and have a locksmith disassemble it, swapping the tumbler components so you can use your "original" key.

I've done this on quite a few GL1100, 1200 'Wings and on several of our Valkyries when the subject of "mix and match" saddlebags, trunks and whatnot has arisen.

My little door has be gone for years. Ign. still works like new. I  don't think missing the door is too much to worry about.

This has to be the best idea, and since I know the local locksmith could have disassembled the
orginal, I should have thought of it. But when I found out that a whole new lockset doesn't cost an
arm and a leg, I went for it though, and now that the center cover is off (I thought that was going
to be the only hard part  uglystupid2 ) I have started swapping them out... there's a little
springy-clippy doodad on the saddlebag locksets, I can't help but think that if I mashed on the
right place the old locksets would just drop out... I'm not ready to use the sawzall yet  2funny

#11 is a very thin plate inside the saddlebag that... distributes the load where the latch is
attached... I used a one sided razor blade to get up under the edge all around the plate, thereby
releasing the plate's goo induced death-grip on the saddlebag. After I went all the way around
the plate, it was easy to lift away and the latch could be rocked out.

#5 there is a cylinder filled with lock guts. I was totally flummoxed when it came to figuring out
how to change the cylinder out, but it was very easy to exchange guts between the old cylinder
and the new... the guts can be inserted into the cylinder more than one way, but only one way is
right...
