Was all ready to go for a Sunday ride then noticed this. Thought it was water but no it is oil. It is not coming from the drain or fill plug.

Shock leak?

A flashlight from the side can show a shiny trail from the source.  (sometimes)

I would say it's the main seal that can be seen around the drive splines

Only had it for about 700 miles. Don't know much history on it. It is coming from the underside of the hub.

Sometimes if the owner puts to much grease on the spline it will leak after it heats up. If so it will go away after a short while. If not your seal needs to be replaced.

Gear oil is cheap, I would drain the gear oil and refill to correct level and see if it still leaks.

Just open up the drain plug and see if oil runs out, it could be over full.  if not, probably the seal.   But if that oil doesn't smell like sulpher it may be shock oil.

If it turns out to be the seal, it is a very easy job to replace.  Just pry out the old one and press the new seal in with your thumbs.  No special tools needed.

I thought the seal on the final drive had failed, but it turned out to be the right shock(progressive 440)
Not having a problem with the 444s they sent under warranty.still have the oe seal in there at 100k miles.
Shock and gear oil both smell bad,the gear oil is thicker than shock oil.

+1

It's counter-intuitive, but that seal should not be pushed in below the lip of the final drive housing.  It should be flush or a little proud.

Yeah if it's gear oil , and you have to verify that, I think the best advice is to remove the fill plug in the pumpkin and then stand the bike up right if anything drains out the fill hole then that would explain the leaking it would also remedy it because it shouldn't be above the fill hole level. If when you remove the fill plug and stand the bike uprght and there is no oil leaking out  the fill hole then your problem is a bigger one probably the seal inside has failed. Let us know what you learn.

Well I'm going to drain the hub and refill it and watch it closely. I think it is a seal on the hub.
Would not think it my shocks. I have Progressive 416 air shocks. Thanks for all the input!!

Reach in and feel around the bottom of the shock to see if it is wet. If it is leaking the bottom half should be slippery. Happened on mine after i bought it but it was the left side. When on the sidestand it would leak on the pipes, smoke and stink.

That seems like a lot of oil for a shock leak. I would lean to an overfilled pumpkin or a leaking seal.
